How things have been lately.

Since the lasted time I posted anything some things have improved. I had a brief cold last weekend which only lasted Friday to Monday though it made me very bad on Saturday. I finished my antibiotics for the chest infection from the week earlier and I was worried that the cold would set me back but I don't think it has. My cough has almost ceased, the first time since January/February time and the phlegm production has slowed considerably. I had two great days on Monday and Wednesday when it was quite warm weather but since Wednesday when the air has become colder I've found breathing a little more difficult. Still not sure if it's the COPD or the Asthma that's causing this.

As my COPD has been diagnosed as very mild I thought I could carry on pretty much the same with regard to walking but I find I seem to overdo it with the speed I walk.

I've sent off for the DVD Living with COPD and some of the links I was sent re environmentally freindly cleaning products and tips I've found very good.

Hi Wiggins

So glad you are feeling a little better. The weather does play a part in how well we are breathing, which of course has a knock on affect regarding walking. Don't worry if its the asthma or COPD either way certain things irritate the airways, weather conditions included. Very hot, very cold, damp, humid, high winds, air pressure, all these affect my airways, as do air born pollutants such as pollen, traffic fumes, any kind of smoke etc etc. There is a lot of oil seed rape planted this year, (that's the golden yellow crop, fields and fields of it at the moment), this is highly irritantating to a lot of people, even those without a lung / breathing condition.

The important thing is we manage our symptoms, wherever possibly try to avoid the known irritants.

If things are becoming difficult to manage, see the doc asap, especially for signs of lung infection and worsening of symptoms.

Its great you have sent away for the BLF dvd, living well with copd.

Hope the weather warms up soon. Keep in touch.

Glad you found the natural cleaning aids post helpful.

Wishing you more feeling better days.

I hope for warmer temperatures. It is a bit milder here today, and dry with a slight breeze, sunny spells but mostly overcast, still only 10C need warmer.

Hope you are having a good Sunday.

Wishing all an easy breathing day.

Today I've been terrible. I walked four miles from my flat to my mum's in the next town, it took me 1hr 40 mins and I had a ten minute rest and a sandwich in between. When I reached her door and stopped walking I was gasping for air, I still didn't feel recovered over a hour later. I could hardly eat my dinner, in fact I left most of it. Can't understand why because as Tru1 and yourself say it is milder temperature today. Think I'll have to go back to my Dr I do think I've got worse since my diagnosis a month and half ago. Today knocked me back a bit, I didn't expect that things would change so quickly, not long ago I could do that 4 mile walk easily without any problems at all.

Hi Martyn,

Nice to hear from you again. Sorry to hear your not feeling too good at the moment, I think you probably did too much when you walked the 4 miles to your mums particulally so soon after getting over a chest infection and cold, It does`nt take much to knock any of us back, Chest infections are nasty things to get particulally when we have copd, they take more out of our body than we think. I think you should go back to your doctor and get another check up an some more advice. Maybe build up the walking (you know a bit more every day). I`m pleased you have sent for the living well with copd dvd and am sure that you will be able to relate to some of it. When I`m feeling down or I`ve had a set back I watch it again because it reminds me that I am not alone and that there are some of the things I can do to help myself.

Stay positive Martyn

Regards Linda

Hi Linda

Thanks for that message. I know I'm not alone, all I have to do is look at the blogs here and the messages of help and support everyone leaves for one another. It's a good community! I've got an extra day of work this Tuesday so I'm going to go to the local breathe easy group, it'll only be a one off because I usually work on Tuesdays. I'm definitely going to the Dr's again, I have to go anyway because she wants to try me with another type of inhaler.

I have been quite positive but today rocked me. I'll be okay, I've still to get a grip with the idea of this and develop strategies to cope. It's still new and totally alien. I am adaptable and I'll get there, I always do.

No I don't smoke. I never have. I've been told it's passive smoking that caused it.
