Breathing training

Hi everyone, just wondering if anybody out there has tried any breathing trainer apparatus available to strengthen your breathing. Had a nasty virus on top of my copd which hit me twice and has left my breathing and body pretty weak. Trying pursed lip breathing and everything but just wondering if any of the gadgets work. Desperately want to take my dog for a walk again but just too weak at the moment. Any answers very very welcome πŸ™ πŸ˜‰

Let your body heal first the breathing will follow. Lots of rest, good healthy food and only when you are starting to feel better take the dog out for his walk. I have learnt from my own mistakes of doing to much and then keep going back to exactly where I had been a week ago. Don't expect this s to happen overnight but you will get there.

Wise words from the others. Don't be tempted to buy one of those gadgets which train lungs to be stronger. They are for athletes and can be very damaging to us. A flutter device or aerosure is much better to loosen the mucus so that you can keep your lungs clear and stop the bugs getting a hold.

I found my AeroBika a great help when I was ill. The mucus came up so much more easily and I could adjust the resistance as I grew stronger, which showed I was actually making progress. I hope your dog won't have to wait much longer. xxx

It takes quite some time to get over these viruses, rest is important as is good food and a good tonic , give yourself time it will come back slowly . Try breathing exercises , regular slow deep breaths will help. Hope you feel better soon x

I wouldn't use any device that wasn't recommended by Resp. team or GP. As Swizzy says it could be damaging, xxx

Power breathe is one …..tried and made me worse .

Aerosure , expensive and didn’t help me at all , not suitable for some conditions either

There are a number of them .

Lots of provisos

There are different lung clearing devices too, not exercisers

Bought one to try, to be honest it didn't help as I thought it would. Went on a pulmonary rehab course which was much more beneficial. Speak to your gp who can arrange this for you. They are very informative and give lots of tips on making life easier. Good luck

Anything that restricts the air going in or out your lungs is a bad thing, if my lungs are clear I can move about and do some exercise, if congested it’s a lot more difficult, I noticed during lock down any mask would make my lungs more prone to congestion, those devises are a bad idea πŸ™‹β€β™‚οΈ

TFL had a badge which said I am exempt from wearing a mask - whether you can still get it or not I do not know - it is free. There were also many paper badges to download from various places. Go onlineand have a look.

I cannot wear a mask for long so I wear this badge when ever I have to go to hospital appointments, even the dentist. People seem to understand when i am wearing it. |It is also useful on buses - any transport really as some nurses are still wearing them.

I couldn't use a mask as well so I also downloaded a badge and had it on a lanyard for hospital visits etc. during Covid. I was at Guy's Hospital recently and even in the onocology unit, they no longer insist on masks so I've thrown my badge away.
