What sad news. I hope he makes a good recovery.

I do wish him well but really have to ask why his family accepted a free trip to Barbados just before xmas when we were supposed to be in lockdown. Couldn't they have waited until it would be safer for him.

Annie31 profile image

Must admit Littlepom the same thought crossed my mind and it begs the question where and how did he pick this up? I thought the whole country was in lockdown on the 20th, we could only relax the rules for xmas day

in reply toAnnie31

Yes it's a bit mysterious, the pneumonia/covid diagnosis. I also thought we were in lockdown in dec. Oh dear. I do hope that he comes through this.

I have every admiration for the gentleman. However not much for his family's decision to take him on holiday. I truly hope it is not something they live to regret.

Yes . I was shocked when I heard that . I don't think my family would have done that , at that time -- freeby or not . 🤔 but I wish him well .🤗

i agree also why is his family aloud to be at his bedside when everyone else who has someone in hospital with covid not allowed to see anyone and could die alone

Wishing so much that he can overcome this. Even pneumonia alone at his age is so serious, hoping for best for him and his family.

I feel sad for Captain Tom and his family and agree it probably wasn't the best idea to take him to Barbados. But perhaps it was something he really wanted to do, and at 100 yrs old he may never get another chance. I don't know the details, so don't know if they broke the rules. It all seems a bit strange.

I hope he is peaceful and well cared for and that he makes a good recovery, but the reality is that he's 100yrs old now and none of us go on for ever. With his spirit and determination, though, I'm sure he'll be seeing a few more birthdays yet!

xx Moy

It would appear you are right Moy. He tweeted on 10/11 December on board the plane how being able to fly again was on his bucket-list! There's another family picture taken in Barbados 18/19 December so it would appear they were either still away or just returned when Bedfordshire went into Tier 4 on the 20th. None of which they could do anything about. Once again an open-ended scoop by the media not giving the full details. As it is very unlikely, given the fact of the recent date of the covid positivity test, he caught this from the holiday, I don't think it was necessary for the media to mention the Barbados trip and leave the general public to think there may have been some rule breaking but this is what they do to make the headlines. I think Sir Tom and his family deserve more credit than this.

Thanks for that clarification. I agree they should be given more credit. Xx Moy
