How can we make sure people get the second COVID-19 vaccine dose?

The light at the end of the pandemic tunnel is getting brighter. This week, the first health care workers will receive the first doses of an FDA-approved coronavirus vaccine. Soon, so will other frontline workers in health care and beyond, and residents of long term care facilities.

The availability of life-saving vaccines, however, will not necessarily result in people getting fully vaccinated.

For the first vaccines that will reach the public, everyone who gets a first dose must have a second dose within a few weeks to get full protection against severe COVID-19.

Information for the people living in USA.

UK news has already covered this.

So you are basically saying Americans have no place here and US news is not welcome? A rather small minded opinion. I bet you take US sourced or patented medicines though.

no that is not what I am saying, read again without adding what goes on in your head.

Why the comment then? It is no secret and not hidden that it originates from the University of Michigan, doh.

FDA gives guidance to USA citizens it concerns people living in the USA. Some UK folk may not understand that. doh

But you know very well that there are American members here.

Its good to have friendships :)

Thanks for that 2greys. This might be a UK support forum, but it’s open to anyone, & like you I’m interested in news from around the globe. Narrow minded nationalism is what got us into this pickle, imo. I appreciate the way you find stuff which isn’t readily available on the main news sites

Your question is: 'How can we make sure people get the second vaccine?' When you have the first jab they inform you of the next date and also give a small vaccination card.

Not my question, the question of the article. A piece of card, put away safely and forgotten about, 3 weeks is ample time to forget. It really needs a register of some sort to follow and chase up those that miss their appointment, especially as those over 80 years who may also be prone to lapses of memory.

I wish I had a pound for every time I have put something away (hidden) safely and lost it until discovering it accidentally, blaming gremlins :D

Thanks 2greys, nice to know. I have 13 close family members in the US, I pass on links to a couple of the oldies who aren't computer savvy. I worry more about family there with the high numbers of infection than I do here! P xx

I watch CNN, which reports deaths in the US topping 300k & cases over 16.5million. Thanksgiving hasn’t helped. Yet too many Americans seem to view mask-wearing as an assault on their freedom. Freedom to do what, pass the virus onto others? Joe Biden’s main priority seems be tackling this terrible pandemic 👍 Good luck to him & Kamala Harrisedition.cnn.com/interactive...

Thanks Hanne62, it massive over there. My bro in law is 84 now so I can't help but be concerned. He'd certainly wear a mask though, so would his 2nd son who commutes to NY daily to teach.

From what I gather, your contacted directly by your GP for your first vaccination and I’d predict that you would then receive a reminder. GP’s send messages for all appointments that are pre-booked so as to prevent a wasted appointment and since this is a fragile vaccine, they will want to ensure that it is used and not wasted

Thank you 2greys, Your info is always appreciated . X

The trials data, which has been peer reviewed by scientists world wide for both the Pfizer/BioNtech Xford/AstraZeneca say it will work.

60 years ago! Go back just another 30 years and Antibiotics were unheard of.

Thalidomide wasn’t a vaccine, so you’re not comparing like with like. It isn’t mandatory to accept it if you feel hesitant.Cx

Not really observant - it’s just a fact. I appreciate only too well what this drug was used for. I do agree with your point ‘it’s a no win argument. You either have trust in this vaccine or you don’t’.Cx
