It's easier to reply to you all here with reference to 'my oncologist'
I do not have an oncologist! I had one for my lung cancer radiotherapy, but that is over and he is no longer my oncologist, that is what Christie's tell me.
I have had no CT scan since radiation, apparently they do a scan, Respiratory in Wythenshawe, 6 months after the radiation therapy, which also means I cannot have a lumpectomy arranged because they need to see a lung CT scan beforehand.
Also, I have a 'breast doctor' in Wythenshawe and not an oncologist. So I am in dire straits and something is not quite right with the protocol here as I take oral chemo and losing my lovely hair... and feeling quite lousy all the time......I need to do some more investigating.
Thank you all for you 'ears' or 'eyes' and have a great week. Breathe easy...
Love Bev xxx :))

Oh Bev that does all sound confusing, fully understand why you are in Dire Straits, and it must be difficult to sort it out whilst you are feeling lousy all the time. As they all must send reports to your doctor if it was me I think I would phone my doctor and ask if they could help sort it out in my own mind just what is going on. If I was in your situation I would be really stressed which won't help with recovery. I really hope that you can get sorted out just what is going on. Sending you my best wishes๐ฅฐ
Hi Snackjack,Thank you very much for your supportive reply๐ค
I have put in some calls already, so that I can sort these problems out. Thank you for your message, hugs for you๐ค
So sorry Bev, from my own experience after analysis of the lump from the lumpectomy the type of cancer is determined, which in turn will determine what treatment is offered.
After my lumpectomy I first went back to breast clinic consultant who gave me the low down on cancer type and proposed treatment offers, I was then referred to oncologist for treatment to be explained in detail what happens with or without treatment etc (now is the time to ask questions of the oncologist) after which you can make your decision to go ahead with further treatment or not.
Its such a difficult time I know, stay as well as you can and I am sure you will find the strength to endure. I hope you can get the lumpectomy done soon as and that your margins are clear.
So sorry you are losing your hair from the chemo drug, the treatments for cancer are so aggressive I do feel for you. Pamper yourself every day and keep focus on helping yourself to heal before the next lap of teatment.
Thanks Bkin,I may still have lung cancer, so I've been concentrating on that a lot. The breast cancer is there since February 2020, so I'm not really making that a big thing at the moment, because I'm stuck with it, what I need to know is can I have the vaccine whilst on chemotherapy and that's why I was answering the replies as to 'my oncologist ' because I don't seem to have one right now๐คAs to the tumour in my breast, I don't think about it because I have so much wrong with me that this step is way, way over there until I get to it after all the protocols I seem to have to go through. I am not a person who worries about something I cannot yet grasp to change. I only have one lung which has now been damaged by radiation and I am on chemotherapy for my breast tumour and I need to know about the vaccine๐๐พand trying to get a hold of my last 'lung oncologist' to ask him about the safety of it for me personally.
I am winging everything I do, because the Coronavirus keeps blocking me!๐
Thank you so much as always for your support, you're a blessingโค๐๐
I only answered regarding the breast cancer because you mentioned the lumpectomy and that you would be referred again to the oncologist during that process.
I think you are wise just to focus on recovery from the lung cancer and cope with that drug treatment for now.
You would have to check with your hospital regarding the chemo treatment medication and getting the covid vaccine
But check out MacMillan site re Coronavirus vaccine for people living with cancer. they too may be able to advise you further:
Dear Bkin, I know you replied with that information because you know first hand and I value you very much and that information you gave me is wonderful! It helps me! I did not mean to come across as I sounded, sometimes I grasp for words, I lose track sometimes of what I have written and then I forget the verb๐๐คIndeed I know nothing about the procedures of a lumpectomy. And, you're right, I have just read the McMillan site and right there it says I can mix chemo with the vaccine!! ๐๐ผ๐
I hope you continue to support me, your opinion is always highly regarded. I'll take care as long as you do, dear Bkin.
I find that, not having an Oncologist after Radiotherapy is astounding! I really recommend that you should ring up your hospital for clarification about this, you may well have slipped through the net, in these unusual times.
I had a CT scan 1 month after completing my Radiotherapy.
The treatment can keep working for a long while after. They need to be keeping an eye on the tumour in case the treatment has not been sufficient or has caused damage. Not wanting to worry you unduly, but it only takes a few rogue cells to have survived being zapped for it to start growing again or spreading, although not often, some cancers can be radiation resistant. It is the Oncologist who will finalise your case (in the lungs) after 5 years of monitoring.
My Radiotherapy was completed in May 2018 and have had an Oncologist's consultation every 6 months with alternate CT scans or X-rays (more recently only CT scans).
I have been discharged from the Respiratory Clinic into the care of the Oncology Clinic, but can referred back to Respiratory should the need arise, which has happened for just 2 consultations.
As far as the vaccine goes the only problem I can see is that chemo may have lowered your immune system and the vaccine may not work 100%. You might find that you will need another dose after your chemo has been completed. Another question to ask in the same phone call to the hospital to be sure.
Thank you 2greys,I called Christie's last Thursday and must have been informed by a 'newbie'. I'm calling again tomorrow. Bit the respiratory consultants in Wythenshawe say you can't see anything because of inflammation. Was your lung CT imaging clear? Thank you for info 2greys๐๐ผ๐
Ah, ok, respiratory said they wouldn't be able to see anything EXCEPT inflammation and therefore no clear result? Well, I shall talk to the oncologists' secretary tomorrow to make an appointment. Thank you for all the info 2greys and your prompt response, it's very much appreciated. Have a good evening ๐๐ผ๐
Its very tiring trying to sort appts out, my oncologist forgot to book my scan so I'm still waiting and the chemo is really making me ill , but no one seems to want to help, his secretary said today, ill send him a text message, grrrr.jane
I know exactly how you feel, they seem to be passing the buck a lot around the respiratory and cancer departments! I have found sometimes that my tone has changed from nice and friendly to 'matronly'๐this evening and seem to have been helped much better....or the people are more positive ๐๐ผ
I hope you manage to get some positive results tomorrow Jane! In the meantime loads of love and hugs until later ๐คโค๐
Gingerapple and chubby2x22 , it sounds appalling what you are both going through in regards to treatment or lack of, and the proper medics to be looking after you. ๐ฅฒ
It really is hard work when you have to keep chasing up people, especially when you have so much going on already.
Love and hugs for you both and I really hope both of you get better looked after soon!
Well its all happening. Spent Wednesday in hospital on drips, scans etc, but decided to come home at 5 o clock as no results until Thursday. As you say ladies go for it and so the phone calls started. Pleased I did and next tuesday oncologist is doing a phone consultation. This morning I'm like a jelly on a plate but I guess I need to know. Suns shining which makes a nice change but it must be cold as this big lab is snuggled up. Positivity๐ฅด jane
