A little confusion cleared up, it has however ended with an unexpected revalation. I was a little concerned with the last consultation in September. Although good news that the large nodule had not turned out to be malignant I was told that it was scarring that had been picked up instead, and the Registrar suggested that it was related to the Radiotherapy to the tumour on the other side. This would have meant the beams travelling through my heart, rather concerning to say the least even without also having Ischaemic Heart Disease.
Friday's consultation was with the head of the the Oncology Clinic. After explaining my concern, he dismissed the scenario of the scarring being caused by the Radiotherapy. He told me that the scarring is extensive throughout my lungs! So another restaging CT scan has been ordered in six months time to monitor if or any progression has taken place.
He could not offer a specific cause for the scarring, my thought is possibly from Covid. He did of course emphasise that I should accept the vaccine when it is offered to me, so that is good to confirm that I have no bar to it.
There is nothing I can do about it other than to put it to the back of my mind and carry on as normal.

I’m glad you got that clarified. It’s good that the large nodule isn’t malignant. So it’s carry on as normal, what ever normal is now. I hope your Christmas is .I think ours will involve loads of TV
I’m going to send out for a turkey or something, I know there’s only 2 of us,but I have this desire for turkey! Sad I know.the cat will be happy !take care
Haha! You may well have heard my tale about Dad bringing home a 21lb turkey for 4 of us. We were eating it for a l-o-n-g time! The thought of Mum's face when he brought it home still makes me laugh.
With that in mind, I bought a frozen turkey breast a few weeks ago which I put in the freezer in case we can't go to our son's as planned. It can be cooked from frozen, so ideal if plans change at the last minute. I'd really like a nice turkey crown (also available to be cooked from frozen - I can recommend the Iceland one if last year's is anything to go by) but it would be too much for us two.
2greys, I'm sorry, I just hijacked your post! It was the thoughts of Oshgosh, the turkey and the cat licking its lips that got me side tracked.
I'm so pleased to hear that your nodule is not malignant. That, and also the news that the beams didn't travel through your heart, must be huge relief. I hope that you and Sharon have a good Christmas. xx Moy
Hi and quite a brutal shock for you initially to take in, but in 6 mnths time, they will have more of an understanding etc. (Don't think that I've put my point accross very well! Brain fog is scoring high on the chart, so I apologise). Merry Christmas 🎅 to you and Sharon 🎄 . 🐿🌈x.
Pleased that you have got some clarification and that you can have the vaccine. Settle in for a lazy Christmas and put your feet up. I have a Marks & Spencer Turkey meal (for one) in the freezer and have a mini Christmas cake so Christmas day sorted, Netflix here I come.Have the best Christmas that you can and a big thank you for all the info that you keep bringing to us.
Put it this way 2greys, the result of the consultation could have been very different and much worse. As you say, a little confusion perhaps but not a malignant nodule. That's such good news for you and Sharon. I am also delighted hearing this.Have a restful Christmas and may we all have a happier and healthier New year.
Best wishes and a big thank you for all the research you do to keep us informed throughout the year.
That it is not malignant is the best news , as for the scarring you will do as you say and put it to the back ofyour mind, Do have a good christmas and look forward to a better year in 2021. And many thanks for all the info you bring to us.
Mixed news but good news that there is no malignancy. Your plan to put it to the back of your mind is probably the best course of action as there is nothing you can do to alter things. Best wishes to you and Sharon for Christmas and the coming New Year.
Great news the nodule is not malignant but sorry to hear about the scarring. You sound to have a good team and I am wishing you well with your next scan.
Hope you both have a good Christmas and thank you for all the research you bring to out attention.
My GP used to say to me when I prevaricated about taking steroids for a lung infection/ asthma exacerbation because of side effects, ‘You’re doing yourself no favours. Infections will scar your lungs if left untreated for long. Start your rescue pack as soon as you know you’ve got a problem.’
That is very good explanation, although (touch wood) I have not had an infection for well over a year now, 15 months. With the exception of having had Covid-19 in April that is and it is documented being a cause of fibrosis (scarring)! This all came to light in June. I have had very regular scans over the last 4 1/2 years.
Perhaps you’ll never know for sure but taking all your previous scans into account, where scarring wasn’t mentioned, looks very much like the Covid you had as the cause?
You seemed to manage and survive this awful virus so well, I didn’t think of you being left with such side effects. I do hope it’s not widespread, and stays manageable for you, 2greys. All the very best, anyway.
I’m so pleased to hear that you are staying cancer free. My husband has just had his two year scan following treatment for bowel cancer ( surgery not radiotherapy) and I am to say he is fine, and the consultant was very pleased. They also checked his prostate even though he had that treated elsewhere. Another complication of the English/Welsh border situation!
That is good news😀. As for the scarring, i think we live with scars on are lungs all the time without realizing (infections ect) your consultant sounds through in his investigations. So try and relax not worry about it, and the six months checkup will soon be hear. Have a good Christmas 😷Ps
Thank you for another year of very interesting and informative posts.
Good news 2g, as for the scarring I think the above comments are right, as lungies we live with scarring after infections and in your case having covid is probably the answer. Have a good Christmas and New Year x
