Coronavirus home test kits run out in England and Scotland

England and Scotland ran out of coronavirus home testing kits within hours on Monday, amid a backlog in laboratories.

People were advised to travel long distances to test centres after being told that the daily allowance of home tests had run out.

Callers to the NHS 119 number for Covid-19 were told: “We’re very sorry – the available allocation has already been issued at this time.”

The reason behind the apparent shortage is unclear, but laboratories have been struggling to clear a backlog of tests since the end of July. The Department of Health and Social Care has been contacted for a comment.

Five days later after our tests, I am still waiting for the results. I rang them up today, told they had been processed and the email would be hurried up Result tonight = zilch, still waiting despite telling them how important it was and why. Dido Harding needs to be takeng to account. I wonder how many other people are urgently waiting for their results, so they can proceed with life saving treatments, whilst she twiddles her thumbs. More propaganda and lies from the Gov saying "results only take 24 hours" with their world beating Test Track and Trace service. All because of a false positive test from them, fuming.

What an absolute shambles. They had just started talking about the possibility of issuing schools with home kits, as it is they are sent home and advised to be tested. From this article it appears another pointless and useless exercise.

I hope you get your essential results soon.

They have just seven days left to organise for the start of schools opening. Assuming they can manage this then they are going to have to get their act together. It will be six days tomorrow for me, very little use if a child/teacher is positive and it takes six days, they will have infected the whole school and local community.

Schools are already open in Scotland, and there have been positive cases, yet the schools are staying open with no social distancing or masks etc amongst kids!

Teachers can apparently request a test, but there's been no information about how to request it!

A friend of mine has had 2 tests in the last couple of months both tested negative yet she has the same symptoms as I had when diagnosed in March. The second test she waited 4 days for because in London they had run out. Then she waited a further 4 days for the result more than the promised 36 hours. She was able to trace the test online & it was sent to Glasgow for testing. I myself have 'long covid' still with ongoing health problems since being diagnosed. There is so much confusion with this system but as this is a new virus (so we are told) I expect there will be problems. I do hope none of you catch it. I would rather go through another round of chemotherapy (which was bad enough) than go through CV19 again.
