Seventeen staff and two pupils have tested positive for coronavirus at a school which has now been shut until at least next week to undergo a deep clean. All staff and children at Kingspark School in Dundee, which reopened along with other schools in Scotland on August 12, have been told to self-isolate for two weeks. NHS Tayside confirmed positive cases among three 'community contacts' linked to the cluster at the school, which has about 185 pupils aged between five and 18.
A positive case has also been linked to Happy Times out-of-school club at Downfield Primary School in the same city. The NHS also confirmed that a child attending the nursery at Newburgh Primary School was now isolating at home with other household members.
Deputy Chief Medical Officer Jenny Harries says "pupils are more likely to be hit by a bus than catch coronavirus"
I suppose in Jenny Harries view, 3 pupils have been hit by a bus just this week in Scotland!
I am fed up with all the lies that they keep being spouted. It cannot be safe, what damage is going to be caused to children that go on to infect, say to their grandparents who ultimately die. They are going to feel guilty and carry that guilt with them for the rest of their lives.
From our experience, there is nothing wrong at all with home education and it can be very successful indeed. A mass removal of children from school registers will negate the receiving any fines and make the Gov sit up and take notice that they cannot pull the wool over peoples eyes any more.
This worries me because my grandson 13 is going back to school in 2 weeks. They say it’s good for their mental health but surely they will be lives lost too. As you say the guilt of killing their grandparents would be with them forever. Not only that if you survive it is really debilitating, as you well know 2 greys. There seems to be too many people not wearing masks when they should how do we all stand a chance.
I can fully understand that the lack of interaction is affecting the children. But they may not be the ones that get it but have I am sure the same chance of spreading this evil bug?
I think the Scottish government is about to bring in regulations stating that older school children have to wear a mask in communal areas but not in the classroom.
I am fed up with the lies too and have little confidence in the medical team surrounding the Gov anymore.
Your post is certainly of concern to me and builds on the fears I already have. My daughter has worked all the way through the lockdown as an assistant head yrs 5 and 6. She personally would have preferred to see years 5 and 6 back as yr 5 kids take their sats next year, instead of the little ones going in. They had 90 year 6. The Gov mentioned 15 to a class. The most they could get into a very old building was 9 to a class. So they had 4 classes Mon to Thurs one week. Deep clean Friday and the rest of the kids the following week.
Now the Gov expect all kids in (30) a class - 700+ pupil in a school built for 400. PPE is not considered by the Gov as necessary.
Not only that but the school is in one of the 2 hotspots we have in the city. I am worried for the kids, teachers and the other staff within the school. Many of the kids live within multi generational households and could take the virus back home. Teachers and staff too have vulnerable adults and children back home or close relatives.
I think it is going to be a long horrid winter, seeing even less of our grandies growing up and it will be a big chunk out for us at our time of lives.
I so hope the local Gov becomes much more involved than central Gov and work closely and listen to teachers.
They have such little regard for the profession - take the A results fiasco. If doctors had predicted something, I doubt they would have dismissed their predictions as being unsound.
Did you see the best placard ever one of the students had - ‘No Etonians were harmed in the making of this algorithm.’ I would have given them an A* for that alone.
