Don't know. I've come up with this idea of using a folded square scarf or very large handkerchief, like a bank robber in a western movie. Only trouble is, my husband refuses to be seen with me!

Good morning Yuder

I don’t know which will be best, but I have a mask ready for when I venture out, but I’ve also ordered three shields (min order) and waiting for delivery, as I think there will certainly be some days when a mask might prove difficult to use.

Although like many will probably only venture out when absolutely necessary for some time to come, thought I’d be prepared.

My reservation is that obviously as a shield won’t be sealing in any way that it could be just better than nothing, but little real protection at all.

Btw although loads around, I’ve purchased mine from Flatshield as looks extremely lightweight, has antibacterial coating and made in the UK.

Good luck and stay safe. X

I’ve got the shield, I’ve also bought several different masks to try, I used them around the house & in & out to the garden to test them out, I personally found the shield the best for me & will use that in preference to the masks I have, easier to breathe, it does give a lot of cover & as they keep saying, it’s to protect others more than yourself, I will be using it when I start to venture further afield , I do think tho it’s a case of trying them out for yourself to see what suits you personally, 😊

Are they hot to wear in fine weather (the shield)? I have some face masks but although soft they blow off if I cough or breathe hard. Shields may look alien but appear safer. They may prove to better for us with lung problems.

Sorry for delay, have only just seen this, I much prefer the shield , I didn’t find it too bad when we had the really hot weather, but I didn’t have it on for any great length of time, but I personally think they will be easier to get used to than the cloth maths, hope this helps 😊

Personally, I feel a shield only works well if your wearing full body armour, then your almost guaranteed to be safe from the lurgy’s. A lance is also a very useful tool to ensure social distancing.

A shield would be my choice of weapon.

ADVANTAGES OVER A FACE MASK:-

1. You can be easily recognised by your mates.

2. You can blow your nose without having to lower your mask - just stick your hand and hankie up the front and blow.

3, On oxygen .... plenty of room for the tubes etc.,

4, Vision is not impaired by the edges of a mask perched on the bridge of your nose.

5. No one will mess with you because you would look like an off duty riot officer

6. Everyone can see how beautiful/handsome you are.

DISADVANTAGES:

1. Rain .... no wipers.

Seriously though my choice would be the shield for all of the advantages listed above

lol

🤣

I read that research exists that shields are less effective, as “aerosols” or mini particles can get under it. If you have difficulty breathing with a mask, I’d still use a shield, myself.

Thanks for that
