Sorry you're not getting better. Have you been checked to see if it could be fungal instead of bacterial? Have they grown anything from your sputum? I hope they get to the bottom of it soon and you can start to feel better

Ive just had a bad chest infection was first prescribed Amoxicillin (didn’t work) then Doxycillin (didn’t work) finally Co- amoxiclav & steroids & a nebuliser which did finally clear it up. It turned out not only did i have a chest infection but also my asthma was playing up. I hope you get sorted soon

I've had a nasty chest infection to over Christmas, I tried clairithromycin and doxy, both didn't work. I'm now on ciprofloxacin and I'm much better now. Hope you feel better soon

Do follow up with Dr. I had four chest infections with a pneumonia between. Do follow up with Dr. I had 2 chest Xrays I went the anti-bios and steroids route and then a CT scan. Now been diagnosed with bronchiectasis and awaiting consultation. Not saying you have this ..just that you need to keep Drs informed. Always best to catch things early. Good luck.

Yes, there must be many here who've had continuing chest infections. My longest was October through to March. I lost count of the courses of antibiotics. It wasn't until I had two, 4 week long courses of a good one that finally cleared up the bacteria. It took probably years to rebuild my immune system.

If they haven't already taken sputum samples you must insist that they do. Also, if bacteria is still present then a decent antibiotic for a decent length of time - 5 or 7 days iz absolutely never enough for us with comprised lung health.

Had 5 weeks of infections then asthma was diagnosed. Once that was controlled I was fine for some years then bronchiectasis developed. Both are well controlled through diet and supplements and exercise. Hope you get sorted soon. Go back to GP. Get referred to respiratory consultant if no progress.

I was unwell throughout 2019-coughing, phlegm a continuous infection that was always dismissed as an exacerbation of COPD and always treated with 5 days of steroids and a weeks worth of Doxycycline - late summer was told my out of hours GP that I had pneumonia- went back to my GP and refused X-rays! Told it was an exacerbation again and given more of the same- went on holidays and ended up in hospital in Spain with a plural effusion that nearly killed me. Moral - trust your instincts and push for what you need- you may need weeks on continuous antibiotics!!! this message board is brilliant for advice from the people that know. Nag your GP - can be difficult as they think they know best- not always the case. Be proactive and eat well, exercise, try different inhalers until you get the one that suits you and research all treatment including alternative- I’ve found NAC crystal really helps to thin phlegm. Have a good New Year guys! 🥂🍾

Hiya, Sorry to say that I have had and still got the same as you. My Christmas didn't happen. I took a full course of Amoxycillin, last one this morning and am still taking Prednisolone. I'm in the process of trying to get more ABs from my GP. My last infection my GP changed the Amoxycillin for Clarithomicin which seemed to work better, so I'll ask for those.(if I can get through to them) always in a queue that doesn't move.

More times than not I've needed 2 courses of ABs to get better so maybe you need them as well.

You have my sympathy and hope you improve soon.

I have had bronchiectasis for over 20 years and asymptomatic. I started on Breo inhaler in August. One month later I developed pneumonia and was put on Augmentin for 14 days. Two weeks later pneumonia back and was put in hospital and prescribed Levaquin for 8 days. Three weeks later infection back. At this point I pointed to the inhaler. Surprisingly my doctors agreed and told me to stop the inhaler as the steroid was probably irritating my lungs. They searched for an inhaler with no steroids, and at this point have not found one. And that is ok with me.
