Hi,I'm on Apixaban for A/F,and GP just put me on oral steroids for chest infection. As both affect the clotting mechanism do I need to be aware of anything.Mentioned to Dr.but he just said I need oral steroids and didn't discuss the anticoagulant at all.Just extra worried as I had bad reaction to steroids in past, before I went on Apixaban.Thank you.

DoAnticoagulants and oral steroids together increase bleeding risk?
I have been on steroids permanantly for 5 years and Riveroxaban anticoagulant and I hve managed despite injuries especially the shins. I always have dressings and plasters to hand.
Thanks, when I started on a/coags 2 years ago I was given so many warnings about other medications and foodstuff that I wanted some reassurance. Also having two conditions a/f and copd doesn't help but all comes with age unfortunately!
Yes last Monday I was rushed into Exeter Hosptal having a heart attck. After countless blood lettings and scans and X rays and 10 hours sitting an an allocated bed we get sent home at midnight as it turnes out to be indigestion!! Now for cameras down my throat. As you say it comes with age for most of us.
Dunno but I do know why dentists ask what meds you're on. If you're on steroids/inhalers they make sure they give you the anaesthetic injection not containing adrenaline.
My neighbour is on blood thinner and there is so much medication she's not allowed
