Hi, Lets hope they do their job! I give my husband actimel and/or live yoghurt that seems to help a little with the taste thing. He is also in the middle of abs and steroids - awake at 4am this morning! He has cut them down this time to just 4x tablets instead of 6x - seem to be working, his major side effect is the trembling in his hands from them. Not for long eh? Keep positive! Take good care and wishing you a speedy recovery TAD xxx

Thanks TAD will give actimel a try. I have cut mine down from 10days to 5 I read an article somewhere it said they had done trials which showed 5 days was just as effective as 10 (can't remember who or where) so will give it a go and hopefully the recovery wont be so long, I should be able to just stop them without have to reduce down.

Yuk, poor you polly! four days to go.

Last time i had a breathing flare-up (no infection though) i took just two days of pred and it worked, 30mg first day, 25 the second. It happened at the weekend as usual ( :( ) so on monday i phoned GP and she said it was fine "give it a short sharp shock".

Obviously not suggesting this for you as you have your own care plan, but it shows there are different ways to go.

I don't get that taste you mention. Maybe because i eat quite a lot of goats probiotic yoghurt every day, who knows. Actimel is a good idea though.

That made me smile actually have a good giggle - so glad you didn't die!! xxx

Suck one of your favourite flavoured sweets afterwards Polly, works for me! Hope the pills do the trick and it doesn't take so long to get over them :)

Hi Pollyjj. My Husband has just finished taking those plus Doxycycline. He didn't seem to have any bad taste but then that is how he always is. Have you tried chewing gum. At least it will take away the taste for a long time. If you chew sweets they are soon gone and they are not good for sugar levels.

Oh so sorry Polly,

I got some sherbet lemons from waitrose they may help take the nasty taste away or those Jakemans throat and chest, lozenge, I like the ones in the black packet (aniseed, eucalyptus and menthol).

I hate taking the ABs and steroids too, hope you find the course of treatment goes quickly and hope they do a good job helping you to feel much better soon.

Best wishes BC

Hi cofdrop thanks for your good wishes. It is supposed to be 10 days but might only do 8 if I am all clear. The bad taste is worse at nightime when I am awake not so bad during the day because I can have sweets and drinks to help.

Got to wait until about Friday for results of the sputum test bet it comes back all clear although it was very green have had that happen before.

I've had false negative results before today 'no further action required' just as I am waiting for amb with temp of 40. Was between Christmas and new year and I don't think it was tested in time - that's why I always get samples in quickly. Also sample may not be coughed up from the infected area. Nowt to do with me hun but if you tolerate 8 days and it turns out to be the right ab I hope you can just push for the 2 extra days to complete the course.

Good luck Polly.

I've been on the steroids for 5 weeks now,and although I feel loads loads better with them, sleeping is a massive problem.my GP has told me I may have to stay on a lower dose permanently.maybe the lower dose might be better for me.

I do find actimel good.

Oh dear poor you Polly.

Clarithromycin does taste dreadful. I remember it well, the night & early morning being the worst.

It makes me feel so ill letI usually manage to take the full dose for 3 days and thereafter break them in half take them for twice as long.

I pity you but hopefully it will pass quickly and you'll be on the mend.

So sorry to hear you lost your little dog last year btw. xx
