I’ve just been put on 24 hour oxygen. I was on ambulatory. Last night I don’t think I slept because of the noise of the converter. Do we just get used to it, and anyone got any tips. It probably has to be within a few steps of my bed as I have to change the setting to go to the loo, about twice a night.
Thanks - jo

Hi Jo - when Ive been unwell and sats have dropped and they wheel in the big beast concentrator (Im like you, normally on ambulatory) the sound reminded me of the ferry engine when we would travel overnight to Northern Ireland when I was a child, to see my mother's family. So I found it very comforting. I do hope you get used to it so you can sleep, as sleep is important for healing. Try to think of it as your friend - which it really is at the moment. Best wishes.
You get used to it over time. I know someone who had O2 24 hours a day and they thought they'd not miss it post transplant. They eventually had the transplant but found they could not sleep without the sound of the concentrator. So they recorded it. I have an air purifier. It makes a humming noise. When it's off I can't sleep. I suppose it's a background noise you grow accustomed to eventually. xx 🍀🌿
Hi Jomo, yes , you will get used to it. For me it is like soothing ‘white noise’ and helps put me to sleep. Hopefully you will soon get used to it and you will find it soothing also. Best Wishes, judg69
Hi Jomo...mine is not so close to my bed as your's, but I will say it is quite audible in the day. Though I rarely hear it as I have gotten use to it...J
Mine is away from my Bed, I have it in my Spare Bedroom (Bungalow) so I don't hear it, I do hear my Air Purifier(in my Bedroom) though I have got used to it now as Cas says , you get used to it. When my Family stay, I move the condenser to my Hall way and have it on a Mat ( have Wooden Flooring), so don't hear it, The previous one was Noisy, asked the Technician to change it, this one less noisy. Good Luck Hun. XXX
Hi Jo, yes the big concentrators are noisy. I've got mine set up in the next room, so not too bad. I couldn't stand it in the same room and it gets quite hot.
I'm completely used to it. Make sure if you turn over in bed, turn back the other way or you will wake up wrapped in tubing or pull the pipe off, neither good
