Hi everyone I'm looking for a little advice please.

I was diagnosed with pleurisy a week ago from my gp who gave me 5 days antibiotics. After the 5 days I felt no better at all phoned gp and told him I was still in pain I felt like I was run over with a truck short of breath and a tiredness I haven't felt before. He sent me to a&e to have chest xray which was clear the a&e doctor said it was most likely viral pleurisy and just to rest gave me some anti inflammatory and pain killers. Any way how long in peoples experiences is it until you start to feel well and get back to work ? I'm 35 otherwise healthy

Thank you x

It’s a painful condition and usually takes me a good couple of weeks to feel a bit more human. For me, a low dose of steroids is the only thing that really helps.

Are you resting completely? It helps to be very, very chilled as you recover; no lifting or stretching etc.

Thank you yes I'm resting completely I'm really only moving from the bed to the sofa. I've never had anything like this normally after a few days on antibiotics or rest you start to feel better. I think I will give it until friday if I'm not feeling any better I will go back to the doctor.

Thank you x

I have had a number of episodes of pleurisy. Rest and perhaps a gentle warmth on the worse spot is the only thing that helps. Please rest as as you only increase the recovery time by pushing things.

I was off work 5 weeks for the first time in over 23years working. I had two lots of steriods and antibiotics. I found lying on painful side certainly eases pain. As others have said plenty rest and lots of fluids. Hope you feel better soon.

I had it when I was about 40. Very painful affair. GP gave me a week's antibiotics and high octane painkillers. Total rest for a week and I was ptonounced fit.

Good luck and best widhes for a speedy recovery.

Pleurisy is unfortunately very painful and makes you feel totally tired out. As others have said rest rest and more rest and plenty of fluids.

I found putting something hot like a hot water bottle on the painful side helped.

It took me a couple of weeks before I felt anywhere near my normal self.

Hope you feel better soon
