I have just managed to go 3 weeks without antibiotics which I have used since April this year. I now have tested and found to be infected with staphylococcus aureus. does anyone else seem to be in the same boat constant infections. Getting fed up with feeling crap no energy and now told I need meds for my diabetes.

I have bronchiectasis and am a border line diabetic. I have to take my antibiotic -Colomycin via a nebulizer. When I was told I was pre-diabetes I decided now was the time to make changes to my diet and to lose two stone. More, after I reach my goal. I plan my meals now to ensure I get the right vitamins in me. I also made a list of regular foods I like and can eat. I am still learning. Sandy Brown posted a useful piece of information about the amounts of sugar in everyday food.

Why are you not on antibiotics for your condition? Was it your choice or were you advised to come off them? As I understand it, I will be on antibiotics for the rest of my life. If they keep the Pseudomonas at bay I don't think there's any other choice but to take them. Surely you will now have to take an antibiotic again? I'm sorry that you are getting regular infections. Are you eating properly and limiting contact with young children?

Unfortunately we are all in a similar situation and would much rather not take any medication. However, if we are to enjoy a reasonably comfortable life there is no other option.

If it's any consolation I felt the same when my last but one sputum sample showed no sign of pseudos but the last speciman showed it was still in my lungs, it had been hiding. All we can do is to try to ensure we look after ourselves so that we can help our doctors to help us.

Do something nice to help you cheer up or treat yourself to something special.

Thinking of you.

Thanks for your reply. The consultant did suggest that I may need to go on continuous antibiotics which I don't have a problem with. I am due to see him this next month. Like you I have had pseudomonas, pneumonia, candida and staphylococcus aureus. I do live a healthy life and go to the gym twice a week to keep fit and mobile. I hope you are ok and we get over the winter. keep well keep in touch.
