Although I was born with PCD, the full effects etc were not known until I was about 40! When I told my local NHS dentist that heart on wrong side etc, he decided he didn’t want me as patient, and said I should go to Dental Hospital. Had to ensure was given early appointment as shorter exposure to lot of people in waiting area meant I had less exposure to common cold etc, as I’m very vulnerable. This meant had long time in near stationary traffic, and had to pay expensive parking charges for car. At our local motor bike dealer saw second hand small scooter for sale, and decided it would be good for me. It was great, journeys quicker, fewer parking problems and costs. I used it to go to hospitals etc, and when my late husband was having to go for daily treatment for his mis-diagnosed prostate cancer he used it and said very convenient and easy. Sadly soon after started have few issues, couldn’t get replacement parts, and gave it friend who thought might be able to use it. Happy memories, Jean

Why I bought a Scooter
That is such a shame! When I was at QE hospital with a friend I saw someone with a mobility scooter who said it was wonderful. My mother in law had one too which allowed her to be independent. Is there nowhere you could hire one! Happy days indeed Jean x
Sounds like your scooter was a lot of fun Jean and you used it for as long as possible. Xx💖
I love mine Jean. It means I can go a lot further than I could before. I have spinal stenosis with sciatica so walking more than about 20 yards starts becoming very painful.
My scooter means I have a lot less pain now which is great as doctors don't like giving out strong meds now. If I am told to exercise more I will say give me stronger painkillers then! I don't do pain.
The type you get depends on what you want to use it for ie a big beast to go anywhere, or a smaller one that goes in a car boot. Or anything inbetween.
Mine is a small fold up one as I live on the 1st floor and this goes into the tiny space in my shared hallway. The downside is though that it doesn't do more than a 10% gradient and it is less stable. But it does me for what I want it for which is the whole point.
I did come off it a couple of weeks ago and was going to post it here as it is funny, but not sure about that now...
can I sask you do you do exercises to build the muscles up more ?. i have spinal stenoosis and am sometimes doubled up and cannot stand up straight , i have found that a n electrical gadget called pain gone helps stiff muscles . it is an electric shock like a cattle prod and very painful to sensitive areas but if the muscle is stiff and aching then a few shocks are not felt by those muscles . can be used through clothes . works like tens machine ithink but so much easier. mine lives in bathroom for morning first thing . can be run off replaceable batteries
I've always fancied a Lambretta!
My scooter was a Honda, can’t remember, very small, but derestricted, top speed 48 mph, plenty to keep up with other traffic going through tunnels etc. I had chain to fix it to railings etc at car parks so wasn’t stolen.
I have always wanted a scooter but was too afraid to get on one, I even checked out rev and go but still couldnt find the courage to ride one x
Sounds a lovely way of getting around. xxx
If only all the other vehicles would go away.
