Lobal pneumonia 19 months ago, still got very bad chest

In Feb 2018 I had bad lobal pneumonia. Several rounds of antibiotics. The cough never ever went away, and in November 2018 it flared up into pneumonia again. Xrays and ct scans showed how bad the initial pneumonia had been. Follow up scan in March 2019 showed my chest was clear - only it wasn't as far as I was concerned. I have a constant deep wet cough, it never goes. Have tried inhaled steroids for 6m, no affect. Now on some really gloopy heart burn medicine for 10 days. It's not helping. Has anyone else suffered for so long after the initial bout, and how did you get rid of the cough? It's really getting me down and go is running out of ideas. Thanks!

I think pneumonia takes a long time to go away,it sounds as though you had a really bad dose.

Perhaps you could try later living from day to day, rather than thinking about total recovery? Do youave accessto a respiratory nurse

i see one at the GP SURERY.

Also have access to the county respiratory team.

They did home visits when I first came out of hospital for a couple of months.

They taught me a lot about managing my condition..

Look afte4yourself

No I've only seen gp so far. See him again in 10 days and will defo be asking for a referral.

I am wondering who read your xrays and scans? A GP, hospital doctor or respiratory specialist? It sounds to me as though the pneumonia left damage to your lungs which will have to be managed. The only person who can do this is a good respiratory specialist. GPs are not trained or experienced enough and yours is out of their depth as in 19 months they have failed to treat you properly.

So start again, find a good consultant in your area, take the name to your GP and insist on a referral. You should not have been laft all of this time to struggle with this.
