Why is there no cure for ASHTMA OR COPD?

Also the lungs are an extremely intricate organ. Very delicate and constructed amazingly. If all our alveoli were laid out side by side they’d fill several football fields. Once damaged it’s just not reversible!

That’s an amazing fact about the alveoli, I didn’t know that 👍

My alveoli, since being made redundant by me have now resurfaced both Chelsea and Man City's football pitches, and i don't even get rent. :)

I just know that image is going to give me the weirdest dreams 👅 ⚽️ 🥅 🌱🌱🌱 (there’s no emoji of someone kicking a ball through a field of alveoli, would you believe that??)

Unbelievable no emoji!? i can get the no cure for lung disease and live with that but not to have an emoji for something so simple is criminal negligence. never mind we will continue to use our vivid imaginations. :)

Taken from the internet: Each lung contains 300 million alveoli – if stretched out they’d cover a football field. The total surface area of the lungs is equal to a tennis court.

If you dig a little deeper in medical encyclopedias lungs are different sizes. They can be 300-500-700 million alveoli in each lung. The largest lungs will cover a little more than two+ football fields.

Oh you will have to ask the medical community for that answer. We are just the ones who have to live with it. x

What affect's one person to cause asthma or COPD doesn't in an other person so they don't know how to make a cure. That's why they are making better meds to control it and catch it quickly and hopefully will lend to a cure

ITS A STRANGE DISEASE , I KNOW SOMEONE IN THEIR EARLY EIGHTIES , WHO HAS BEEN SMOKING FOR NEARLY 65 YEARS , WHO HAD THEIR LUNGS CHECKED DURING A GENERAL HEALTH EXAMINATION , AND THEY WERE DESCRIBED AS = " PRETTY CLEAR = NO PROBLEMS " , AND YET SOMEONE WHO HAS SMOKED ONLY A FEW CIGGIES IN A FEW YEARS , GETS COPD ON THE GRAND SCALE ......SEEMS TO ME , GOOD HEALTH IS'NT FAIR ! ... AND WE ARE TOLD THAT THE LIVER CAN " REPAIR ITSELF " AFTER YEARS OF ALCOHOLIC ABUSE ..... PITY LUNGS ARE NOT CAPEABLE OF THIS !! ..…

Perhaps Stem Cells should be taken from

the Liver. They may work in the Lungs ??

Because pharmaceutical companies do not want us to have

cures,as there is no money ,or not as much money in it as there

is in treatments.

Asthma is an autoimmune response: your body is incorrectly responding (or exaggerating the response) to a perceived threat to your lungs. You can moderate the effect and symptoms with medication, but you can't cure it as that would require effectively switching off you immune system.

COPD is permanent, irreparable damage to the lungs, which may be caused by a variety of things, including accelerated lung aging. Everyone's lungs deteriorate with age, but COPD patients have a lung age above the normal range, and may include localised damage. But, like asthma, the condition can be managed.

So how do they do lung changes ? Must take a while for

the Op,and recovery.l imagine the immune system to be

down for some time !!!

Superzob profile image
Superzob in reply tosyntax

Don't worry, surgeons won't do lung transplants, or any other major operation, if they think you're immune system is compromised in any way.

syntax profile image
syntax in reply toSuperzob

Did you say they cannot cure it because it would mean

switching off your immune systom. But is changing a lung

for a good one not curing it ??

Superzob profile image
Superzob in reply tosyntax

I think we may be at cross-purposes here. My comment about autoimmunity referred to asthma; I could be wrong, but I'm not aware of lung transplants being used for asthma, but they are used, in appropriate circumstances, for COPD, which is not caused by a malfunction of the immune system.
