In December 18 I visited Hanoi on holidays. The pollution there was invasive and i returned to Australia with a dry cough and mild asthma. Soon i was bringing up Phlegm 3-5 times a day. I have been on prednisolone and then 3 lots of antibiotics. I have been taking chinese herbs for a month and this seemed to be doing the trick however just this week i have started bringing up 5-7 lots of white phlegm daily again. I have been diagnosed with COPD caused from asthma (never smoked). Doctors (GP and lung specialist) say that it is a lung virus and i have to wait until it goes... Is there a cure or am i going to be in this state for the rest of my life?
Although 70, i am very fit and eat healthy and well.

I don't have an answer to your question. I just wanted to say I hope things start to improve soon. It sounds really unpleasant. It sucks when your body suddenly develops a new syndrome, like there's not enough going on already. 🙄
Thanks for your nice reply, if it was meant for me! ?
I have just been to the doctors this morning and he advises that the symptoms that I have are most likely COPD on the prowl, not a lung virus as first diagnosed by my lung specialist. At least I know now what to expect and make the best of things!
The Chinese herbs have really helped and have made my lungs feel much more normal so if ever you end up with something similar, give them a go! They really dry up the phlegm.
Hi Mike yes my reply was meant for you. It's good you've got a more accurate diagnosis, at least you know what you're dealing with and you can get the right treatment.
It's good to know about the Chinese herbs. I'll bear them in mind should I need them. I do have phlegm but as yet nothing excessive 🤞
I have phlegm constantly and have been taught autogenic drainage at the hospital. I’ve had the phlegm for 10 years now. I’m interested in the herbs. Could you give more details please?
Wow thats awful for you!! I thought mine was bad after 4 months!
The Chinese herbs were prescribed to me by a Herbalist. I am given bags of bits of bark, powder, dried things from nature. These are then soaked and boiled and measured into pots for use over a few days. The first lot I took really helped to dry out the phlegm and seemed to relax my lungs.
We then trialled a stronger brew which provided even more phlegm reduction. The herbs gave a very dried out internal feeling and the phlegm seemed to sit higher in the chest rather than deep down.
This third lot is different again and the herbalist is now trying to strengthen my lungs. I have been on this dose for only a couple of days so no idea how its going to turn out.
I do feel much better and I cough up lesser phlegm which is much looser. The autogenic drainage combined with the herbs works well where I find that I can time the extraction of the phlegm to afternoons.
I am going to ask my herbalist if I can put his contact onto this website for other to make contact however he lives in Melbourne. I am sure that you will find one wherever you live.
Hi BlackMounta, awful that your doctor didnt give you something for this lung virus that you have picked up, they dont always go on their own. I suffer excess mucus as I have bronchiectasis and I do regular huff exercises and have an acapello device that helps, I also have mucodyne tablets that thin the mucus. Hope you find something that works for you x
I don't think that there are any substance that can control a virus! However I saw my GP the other day and he thinks that its now not a virus but related to COPD which I have been diagnosed with.
Yes a virus cannot be treated but with lung disease you cannot afford for this to take hold as it then turns into an exacerbation very quickly. I have a rescue pack at home for this as I cant afford to go down this route.
