It’s blood stained. Could be coming from broken vessels if you’re coughing in excess, the sputum itself isn’t dark. Great you’re seeing dr on Monday, keep us informed. Take care 🦊x

Pink frothy phelgm can be a sign of heart failure or infection. Don't panic, don't go googling, just try to put the sample in a clean jam jar or pot with a lid and make sure you see your GP asap. If you are struggling to get an appointment explain to the receptionist that you are coughing up blood stained phelgm.

If the blood is "frank blood" meaning it's red and fresh then it's more likely due to a possible clot or trauma. Pink and frothy tend to be related to the heart. I'm being very general here.

Blood stained phelgm, or haemoptysis, should always be investigated. It's usually taken quite seriously and depending on other symptoms you might find you get a 2 week referral. But do go to the GP.

There are many causes for haemoptysis but it should always be investigated thoroughly and medical attention should be sought asap. I hope that helps.

Either way, get to your GP. If you can't get another sample then show them that picture. Show themmthe picture anyway. It might resolve by itself but see a GP.

Take care.

Yes. Pink and frothy can be heart related. Connected to pulmonary hypertension. However, there are several other things it could also be.

Yes, as stated in my reply it says that there can be many causes of haemoptysis. But it's always important to get it checked out.

Wait until you see your GP on Monday and see what he/she says. If anything gets worse over the weekend then contact 111. Try and take a sputum sample with you for testing. Let us know how things go. Take care xxxx

Good luck Will be thinking of you Do take a sample with you if you are able.

I was diagnosed with similar earlier this year and am so grateful for them.

You will find a lot of information on here and also the nurses who are on line are so helpful and with give you pointers to questions

A pink tinge in sputum can be caused by lots of different things, normally excessive coughing or a chest infection. My instructions from my consultant are pink sputum keep any eye on it, if it’s occurring every day see the GP. Coughing fresh blood, less than an egg cup full contact 111 or GP more than an egg cup call 999.
