Transplant assessment

My husband has his 3 days transplant assessment in Newcastle next month, strange mix of emotions. For those that have been through this how long did it take following assessment was it until you were told you were on the list or not?

My assessment was a long time ago and was at Harefield. They do lots of tests which I expect you've been told about - nothing painful, well apart from the blood-letting, but we're used to that. The experts then have a group meeting where they make the decision and I was told the results on the last day of my stay, but I know some members have waited longer. I'm sure others will be along to share their experience.

In my case the result was that they didn't think I was a suitable case for transplant, but as that was over 10 years ago, and if anything I feel better now, I think for me it was the right decision.

The best of luck to you and your husband. Let us know how it goes. Jan :)

I'm on the waiting list and The Freemans is my specialist centre, I've been on the list since Jan 2018 as it takes about a month to become active on the TP list. The assessment is nothing to worry about as your husband will have done all the tests previously. You get told by the consultant of the outcome of the assessment prior to leaving the hospital and the reasons for their decision good or bad.
