Seen chest specialist

Seen specialist privately last week, he was so nice and listened to all we said, I gave him a written copy of all my chest problems from the age of 2 from when my Asthma started. But my real problems started in 2012 when I had life threatening blood clots on the lungs which caused scarring on the left lung, I had them twice within a few months, and my chest has not been the same since.

In 2014 I had pneumonia took months to recover and in December 2017/ January 2018 I had pneumonia and sepsis and again recovery very difficult, no follow up with hospital so struggled on with difficulties myself, then on January 16 th this year developed pneumonia again. I have spent the last 8 weeks on steroids, nebuliser, carbocisteine antibiotics.

The consultant said my lungs are only functioning at 70%, there was wheezing and a whistling when breathing out. He wants to do a detailed CT scan of the inside of lungs, an overnight sleep test, X-rays and bloods. He said that once he has all this he can diagnose what is wrong. Felt so glad that something is finally happening to help me after what seems like being let down by previous specialist who should have followed me up in out patients last year. I have ballooned up on the steroids I’m down to 10mg today so by the end of the week I should be off them. How long does it take for moonface and excess weight to go, any idea would be appreciated, it’s really upsetting me I feel I look so awful. Love to all xxx

I am appalled at the way you have been treated. And disappointed that you have had to go privately to get taken seriously. It must be a relief that you are now in good hands.

Hi Silver252, so sorry to hear of all the problems you have suffered and find it shocking that you have had to go private to get the correct treatment you need. I am sure this doctor will get you onto the right meds as he sounds very thorough and wouldnt worry too much about the moon face brought on by steroids, this happened to a friend of mine and it went a couple of weeks after she stopped. Just concentrate on looking after yourself, good luck. Irene x
