how does one keep lungs from aging
Hi you don't unless you have a fountain of youth! Seriously leading a healthy lifestyle especially exercising can teach your lungs to use oxygen more efficiently. Nice to meet you. x
Well, as we get older, our bodies require more care.
I have had lung/breathing issues for 35 years (I'm 69). I was diagnosed first with allergies, then asthma, then COPD and about 10 yrs ago, Bronchiectasis.
I have learned (thru this forum) to be proactive in my treatment.
Exercise, even if it's just doing things around the house. It helps to keep the lungs open.
Be aware of the quality of the air that you breath (don't be around smokers). Use air purifiers in your house.
Less stress in your life helps (my health improved after I retired from a stressful job).
If you are overweight, loose a few pounds. Easier on your joints, heart and lungs. Try to eat healthy.
Avoid sick people, every time you have a lung infection, it leaves scaring on the lining of the lungs.
Talk to your specialist, if the meds that you are now taking are not working, have your doctor try different meds. Also, you may want to try alternatives to prescribed meds.
A lot of those years, I was feeling sick most of the time, but by doing the above, the last 2 1/2 yrs I have felt better and healthier.
Welcome to the forum, Beth
