Hi I’ve been a member for a few years but have never posted before, but sitting here bored and breathless I thought I would. I am 65 and just retired from 50 years in the building trade and of cause I’m now suffering. I was diagnosed 5 years ago with emphysema and told I have pleural plaques caused by Asbestos and have been on a downer ever since. I have been put on different inhalers over the years and now on a steroid free one, but also taken a steroid only, to ween me off steroids and have now increased the dose, I feel more breathless than ever now. I have also a genetic problem passed on to me by my father which effects my walking and limits to how far I can walk . Feeling better just for posting thank you.

Hello Izzywizzy,
50 years in the building trade! Wow! You must have seen some changes over the years. As well as asbestos I bet your lungs took some punishment during those years.
Welcome to the group xx
Hello. This is a great place for support and friendship and laughs. It’s good to see you around 👍
Hi IZZWIZZY, nice to hear from you x
Welcome IZZYWIZZY hope you enjoy talking to all of us on this great site. Speak soon x
What inhalers are you on now?
My local clinic called me in because of a new strategy across the country about steroids in the inhalers, so I’m on a new one called Anoro Ellipta 55/22 once a day. I’m also taken one called Clenil Modulite which is nearly all steroids to ween me off the steroids which the others had in them which doesn’t make much sense to me, but hay ho what do I know.
Welcome and keep posting. It helps tremendously when you know others understand and more importantly there is always someone who can help and many to encourage. Best wishes
Welcome! I worked with asbestos for over 10 years but they still say I have damage but it is not though the Asbestos? Emphysema is one of the many invisible conditions that often gets the comment "You do not look ill?"
I would recommend that you get a referral to Pulmonary Rehab it can help with all your breathing issues and techniques!
Be Well

Hi & welcome, we are not medical people but by sharing our individual problems probably
help others with ideas and ways of coping. sorry to hear that you have a problem with asbestos, I too have been exposed to such material and have the same complaint, emphysema. At 65 you have various treatments available to which you could research, lung reduction surgery, lung coils lung valves which may help your situation. Talk these thro' with your lung specialist to see if any could improve your lot. from this site you will see that you are not alone.
