Hi guys, the last 2 days or 3 I have been feeling really breathless and having to take deep breaths to feel l8ke o can get enough oxygen. Sometimes it feels like I can't speak a whole sentence. I do get fairly bad asthma&take relvar 184/22, montelukast &certirizine&ventilin. BUT...weird thing is my peak flow is possibly nearly the best it's been...350. I'm 40years old. It sounds silly but doesn't feel like an asthma breathlessness. Any ideas??

Breathless
If it doesn't feel like asthma then it probably isn’t. You know what asthma feels like. I am not suggesting that your case is similar but I have had asthma since I was seven and a few days after I had a hip operation I felt breathless, and I knew it wasn’t asthma. It was pulmonary emboli.
It felt as if part of my lungs was not functioning. It is unlikely that you have PEs but I am encouraging you to trust your instincts and, in practical terms, go and see your doctor. Preferably one who believes patients. Have you got one of those?

Aww thank you Katinka. I do have a lovely gp actually so I'll go see her.I'm waiting for an appointment for a ct scan of my lungs from my hospital consultant as I have a rare autoimmune disease that has affected my pancreas and kidneys etc, so they are wanting to check if the same thing is affecting my lungs. Just haven't got the appointment date through yet.
It just feels like I can't get a big enough breath. Good job you were on the ball with your situation. There are some doctors out there who definitely aren't so helpful, but thankfully some amazing ones too!!
What is the name of your autoimmune disease? Some of them certainly can cause lung problems. It sounds as though you might be joining the Zebra club. The club that no one wants to belong to. In medical terms Zebras are rare diseases.

Lol...the zebra club!! My diagnosis is IgG4 systemic disease (aka IgG4 RD) ...it's a bit of a long story but when I was 19 (now 40) I got pancreatitis and my bile ducts were blocked, liver not functioning, gall bladder inflamed but not functioning. Drs couldn't figure why I had all that at such a young age.My consultant at the time went to Japan and that's where they came up with the diagnostic criteria for autoimmune pancreatitis. He said usually an international medical conference is based on a min of a 1000 patient case loads, but there were only 15 of us world wide. About 6 years ago my kidney function dropped from 84% to 44% within 4 years. I've had asthma since I was 12 but they are wondering if it's the same thing causing that too. My asthma has gotten much worse over the last few years, and I ended up in hosp for 9 days a few years ago on back to back nebs, then oxygen, nebs then oxygen for th3 whole 9 days! Th3yve been able to diagnose more people now with the same thing
Definitely a Zebra crossed with a Unicorn. Wow...

Love it!!! What is your zebra called?
Just Zebra. He has a very ambivalent love-hate relationship with skischool ’s cat Scruffy. Secretly he adores her. They often appear in the cartoons I post here. If you scroll down in my profile I think you will find some of them.
