Since reading this weeks posts about vitamin D3 and K2 it set me researching, and my question is “ Which is the best form of Magnesium as a supplement.”
If anyone has any info I would be very grateful.
I thought I would get a combined supplement so before I order I discovered there are several types and cannot really see much difference in them.

they say citrate is the one to go for but that is the one I reacted to. you might want to research that though and how it works on the body, when its recommended you take it, with or without food, for whatever it is you are treating.
By way of explanation I am trying to strengthen my immune system so that I have fewer COPD flare ups than last year. Thanks again. There is so much to be gained from this site.
I don't know your situation, but maybe you should research strengthen the immune system. I could say take sambucol through the winter immune booste etc. eat garlic and ginger every meal, proper balanced diet, plenty of fresh fruit and veg etc, protein each day, probiotics, selenium ace, there is all sorts of immune boosting things we can do. I think have to start with diet and avoiding the bugs, always dodgy every winter even when taking all the precautions but we do what we can. Throwing things out of balance can be as disadvantagious as not having them in balance.
I saw one of the nurses today and although I was so depesrate to have it that I even offered to pay for the Vit D blood test, ( which only costs £17), she was happy to do it for me based on my symptoms.

Fantastic Whitechinchilla, try to remember to ask for a copy of the results even if they show normal, the current NHS normal is only 50 nmol and if you are too close to that you can easily drop into deficiency. Good luck xx
This is my follow up reply to you after all of your help last month.
The result of the VitaminD blood test this week came in at 49.
The nurse who did the test told me it is to be expected that everyone in U.K. is a little on the low side of 50. Still it is a better number than I expected so for now I will leave it.
I notice we have a new member who sounds as if she would benefit from your knowledge of supplements.
I’m not clear on protocol here but know that I am not equipped to elaborate for her.
Is it in order for me to ask you to reply to her enquiry?

Its a bit low if it were me I would supplement even if only 1,000 IU daily through the winter months. Did you know the new vitamin D guidelines are now that most people in UK should be supplementing, the new adult dose for the winter (NHS is 400 IU or 10mcg. It needs to be vitamin D3.
I know we discussed supplementing un necessarily but my instinct is telling me to increase it and combine it with the K2.
I have been vegetarian since early teens, with a severe fish allergy since birth, and have been vegan for over 12 years. Having read that last link the alarm bells are ringing loudly.
I do use Magnesium in a large tablet form,which l think has been best for me.I
would also recommend Kelp to put back the Iodine that we all have a reduction in as we get on. That and Hemp Seed Oil capsules,all available a a greatly reduced price on e-bay,
Hi Emily. Glad to read your posts today. Sounds as if something has shifted and that’s good. Well done. It takes time to adjust to this new situation which has been sprung on you like a bolt out of the blue!
I won’t comment on Pulmonary Rehab as you have had a good reply to that ? I had my assessment today and start on Wed pm. Today they gave me a “ test” to see how far I could walk and showed me the exercise machines that get used. It sounds to me as if it will help me tremendously as there are talk on nutrition and m dictations etc etc .
. I did do a course 2 years ago and really benefited, but I didn’t keep up the exercises and that is the key, together with the breathing exercises which they will teach you. They really work as they have a calming effect especially when we get anxious.
The stronger we can be the better able we are to control this situation. I feel better this evening for just having been there today because I know I have to get back into that routine.
As for vitamins, I am not an expert at all, which is why I didn’t respond earlier to your question. Apols for that. But I will try to give you what works for me.
Every day I take Vitamin B, C and now D3, together with a probiotic
(in tablet form as it is much cheaper than buying Yakult etc.),
a small amount of ginger which one of the members here suggested putting it in porridge, which sounded awful but actually tastes ok.
Then I have a small amount of garlic, though I took 2 cloves a day for years but had to cut back as I have an acid reflux problem so must watch how much I take as it can aggravate that.
I also take a fish oil supplement but that is because I am a lifelong vegan and don’t eat fish in its natural form but it is essential for the heart.
I use a small amount of Tumeric every day in my cooking, in pasta or rice as that is very good for keeping arthritis at bay. Well I should say it works for me.
I also take Glucosamine daily for the same reason as I want to keep arthritis at bay if I can.
There are many other supplements and if you put that word in the search bar you will bring up lots of posts from members here who are much more knowledgeable than me.
I am on a pension so that is about as much as I can afford on a regular basis.
You are fortunate to be referred to P. Rehab so quickly as it will really help you. I had to wait 2 years but then I could have been more assertive with my gp about needing it and wasn’t. Since I have been referred to the Respiratory Clinic I feel so much more confident in myself. The staff are specifically trained in that area and that is where you will learn such a lot and benefit as they will have the answers to all your questions.
I hope all of that helps in a small way and I have sent you to sleep with this long essay.
