Started on antibiotics 4 days ago for mild pneumonia, how long before i should feel some significant relief. Not coughing as much now but still have chest pain when breathing and breathlessness when going upstairs, i have also chd and afib so find it difficult sometimes to no exactly what is causing what. Any advice would be gratefully received thank you.

It takes a while for a healthy person to get over pneumonia. Compromised lungs and it has taken me months to get back to any kind of normality. Very important to pace yourself for a while, you'll be vulnerable to catch anything else while your immune system is low. If I were you I'd invest in a very good bottle of tonic at the very least to help you recover. Good luck, P.

ps you could try a call to the BLF help line for guidance 03000 030555 uk office hours.....oh and be sure to see your GP towards the end of your course of antibiotics. I've had pneumonia 5 times and not once did 7 days of antibiotics clear it.

Very sound advice. I find I now call on the BLF more these days as their advice is invaluable.

I hope you feel better very soon and if you are at all unsure about your progress then phone the BLF or your gp. Take good care of yourself.

Good wishes.for a speeedy recovery.

Others have already left some very good advice and it takes quite a while for even healthy people to recover from Pneumonia so be patient with yourself and rest and take lots of fluids and eat well. The important thing is not to allow it to develop into any more serious. Take care.
