Does anyone use vitamins? Shakes or any supplements they find gives them a “wee boost” ..

Vitamin D3 is my main one mainly because in the past I have been deficient so take max 50000 iu alternate days winter months and 1-3 IU summer time.

I take flaxseed oil capsules periodically and ginger, turmeric and Bromelaine supplement.

I try to take garlic and ginger root in every meal, also black pepper ( you would have to read up o these to understand the benefits)

Vitamin C + Multivits just as I feel I need to. Also for winter with colds threatening I take the Sambucol, I think I put some of this information in the tips and precutions / cold weather protecting lungs post : healthunlocked.com/blf/post...

I got some Mullein Leaf supplement to use when things get really difficult, but I have not used it yet this year. you will need to read up on that too these things are not suitable for every one here is web md link webmd.com/vitamins/ai/ingre...

Food consumption, used in cooking / meals as mentioned above garlic and fresh root ginger, turmeric, black pepper, ground linseed mix on breakfast or yoghurt, Aldi do some good ones. Always take fresh fruit and vegetables every day.

I don't do shakes and limit and processed foods as I have diabetes type II diet controlled so things eaten unprocessed for me are best. However I do occasionally have a nutri bullet meal drink to get the extra nutrients if I think I have been lacking past few days. In the bullet I will add:-

Fresh green leaf at bottom, large chunk of fresh root ginger, half a banana, half an apple or half satsuma, milk and some plain or coconut yoghurt (for the bones + I also think some fat helps absorb the nutrients) fill nutri bullet to max limit line, (milk yoghurt goes in last). Sometimes I add nuts or ground linseed and sometimes I will add black pepper and turmeric. I may have in the freezer some cooked pulses like lentils or pinto beans which I may add. With the mix of fresh fruit/ greens etc I have always found the resulting drink meal very tasty :P

I am certainly going to try this remedy having googled it as it has good reviews for asthma/ sinus and cough related issues.

Will post once I have tried it.

Turmeric with black pepper and coconut oil for best absorption, ginger, garlic. Cloves are very antiseptic but I kind of got bored chopping them up.

Vit D3, magnesium (very important for relaxing smooth muscle tissue in lungs + other muscle tissue in the body), Vit K2 Mk7 (directs calcium to bones), Vit B6 (good for oxygen supply), lutein (macular degeneration), co-enzyme Q-10 (for the mitrocondria in the cells, their engine if you like!).

Interesting you take Q10 for the mitochondria O2. I'm convinced mine aren't working re the CFS. I gave up on the Q10 a couple of years ago due to the expense, perhaps I should give them another go.

Candyred, I take a load of D3 too plus K2 for the same reason as O2Trees. Also B12, zinc, chromium, magnesium, omega 3, glucosamine, multivit & mineral and 20billion probiotic. Plus a very healthy diet with no rubbish.

Definitely the magnesium, look it up on the net, also herbs and spices, just research as much as you can.

I might borrow some of these ideas too. I have been feeling so tired lately, I don't mean sleepy, just utterly drained of strength and energy and feeling exhausted from the moment I wake up. It's been a real struggle getting out of bed in the morning, I just don't have the energy to move. Usually I'm early for everything, whether it's work or an appointment or a social occasion, but the past few days I've been on time with not a moment to spare getting to work. So definitely I'm going to be trying some of these tips for a boost 😴

I'm going to start with the tip about black pepper with turmeric because I have some very dark chocolate with black pepper and turmeric and it gives me an excuse to eat a lot of it right now 😁

Have you had your vitamin D levels checked.? If low you will be tired and may need a supplement.

I haven’t 🤔 I do take supplements occasionally but not every day. Maybe I should take them more diligently. Thanks for that 👍

That’s the wonderful thing about this forum isn’t it.? Learning what others do and take. Ive learned loads this morning.

I think I’m going to go back on Q10 as I too have that heavy tiredness you speak of. It’s pricey but in South Africa one would find adverts for it in all gp surgeries.

I take feroglobin (foli acid, vit B12, 6 and zinc and copper) with vit C 1000 daily, keeps the tiredness away. Alongside Magnesium, Vit D3 and K (just a month in on these) seems to be doing the job on finger nails and aches and pains. And NAC. I think we all need a bit of sunshine mostly

I find the best energy booster is the vitbcomplex, ie all the b vits in one(like berocca). Fabulous

Ah vitamins are tricky..D3 is a must for respiratory diseases and osteoporosis but you must be careful with all those vits and supplements.

If you do take any check first. Some can give you allergies, digestive or even kidney troubles.

I make up a broccoli etc smoothie: brocolli, kale, mushrooms, carrot, pineapple/papaya with coconut milk or almond juice. It ends up being about a litre a day.

Supposed to be good at reducing estrogen in men of a certain age and keep the ahem virility in form! I could swear that after 4 months it's working (evidenced by the fact that my man boobs are definitely slighter).

Of course many of those ingredients are anti inflammatory, so it's part of my broader anti-inflammatory diet - useful for all lung conditions (mine is moderate bronchiectasis) and osteoarthritis (mine is hips).

I prefer to get vitamins from things I eat, not pills (I eat loads of fruit, seeds and nuts) but I do take curcumin capsules (concentrated turmeric) as an anti-inflammatory and cod liver oil for my osteoarthritic hips.

I take vit c, and omega 3 oils also vit d. Not sure if they help or not

hello candyred please research magnesium deficiency and symptoms of magnesium deficiency also calcification of internal organs ie lungs heart how magnesium and calcium work together also look at vitamin d3 k2mk7 also look at foods high in magnesium goodluck.ps great question

Having an Epsom Salts bath seems to give me a great boost - magnesium without swallowing. I found cheap packs in Pound Stretchers.

I have read about Epsom Salts but never tried them. May I ask do you use them to relax?

I used them because someone recommended them on this site, for absorbing magnesium in a different way. I found the first time I used them, that I had a much better night's sleep and my skin felt silkier. The next day I seemed to have a lot more energy.

Hi Hun, I also take Vits. But I am not aware of how magnesium Works? It is on My Shopping list for Thursday's Shopping. I have always felt better for taking them. Vit C, Omega high Strength, Evening Prim., high Strength, and prescription Chewable Calcium for Ostio & RA. It was mentioned above about Magnesium. Always willing to Try...Take natural's also, ginger, Beetroot, garlic, these are every Day in Cooking. Love n Hugs XXXXX

You can always ask your practise nurse or doctor for a blood test to check your vitamin and calcium levels. At least then you know what to top up on and your surgery may even give you a prescription.

Epsom salts - I bought a bug bucket from Amazon as it was so much cheaper than anywhere else. A couple of handfuls into the bath at night. Sit in the bath for twenty minutes. I add a small handful of bicarbonate of soda as this helps the skin to take up the magnesium. It is noticeably relaxing. I feel quite different afterwards.

Vitamin d3 is good if you are low in that, which is likely.

I've never tried coq10 but I understand it is worth trying.

Be aware that many supplements contain ingredients that can cause gut issues - Dr Ray Peat (YouTube) is good for that sort of information.

B vitamins can be important. I break up a tablet and take periodically throughout the day. I don't do this all the time as I usually rely on eating liver for my b vitamins - once every ten days is enough to eat liver.

It's very much trial and error I guess.

Just want to echo red Sox. I take similar vitamins. I believe vitamin D has made all the difference to me.

Vitamin C in liposomal form is better absorbed. Also once past 'a certain age', ubiquinol is a better way of taking CO q10.

Well compared to all our members posts already given,I'm feeling left rather inadequate in my supplements and extra vitamins, lol! My GP said my Thiamine was low so I take 3x100mg daily & then there's my vitamin B Compound tabs 2xdaily and that's my lot. I'm thinking of asking for a full blood test,so any deficiency can been addressed. I feel as if I've not really taken the benefits of supp medicine very seriously in the past. So let's say 2019 is the year I'm looking into what my body needs inside it!!!

I understand what you are saying but if you take prescribed drugs that deplete, for example bone mass then it would be sensible to take extra vit D. It is a known fact that UK usually has limited sunlight so again supplementary Vit D may help. Coenzyme Q10 reportedly helps the body to assimilate better the nourishment and vitamins from a "proper" diet. It would seem that as you get older you don't take in the nourishment as well. You are quite right, but some people need a bit of a boost sometimes

Hi, I have taken a number of supplements over the years for other conditions as well. Vitamin D3 (take with foods with fat) is the best for my immunity and reducing infections, it is often low in people with respiratory conditions. I also take CoQ10, Fish oil, Magnesium, sometimes N-Acetyl Cysteine (boosts Glutathione-immunity, also a mucolytic), American Ginseng and Astragalus are also good for energy and immunity. May add Vitamin C and Zinc. DHEA levels are also low with aging and chronic disease, but need to work with a practitioner on this, may have side effects, not be indicated with certain conditions. Ginger and/or Garlic tea if I feel like I am coming down with a cold.
