Have been trying a home remedy I found on Google, and believe me, it works. A day left on my second lot of antibiotics, after a chest infection caught at a family Christmas party. Three attendees are hospital workers, so it is not hard to work out where it went wrong. Anyway I have been taking a concoction of Ginger, Honey and lemon juice. You grate the ginger (125gm) into a saucepan, cover with about a pint of water and boil till half of the water has evaporated. Strain the remaining water into a receptacle. (The water that remained is concentrated due to the evaporation). Repeat this two more times (using the same ginger residue) but reducing the amount of water each time. Finally, add honey, I use two table spoon fulls and a third of a bottle of 250ml Lemon Juice that I buy from Aldis, made by "The Pantry" with the juice from eight lemons. You may have to dilute a bit, as it is strong. Couldn't move the phlegm before, but after three or four good sips and waiting half an hour, I can "huff", not cough, it up quite easily. Can now get a pretty good deep breath without my chest tightening up. Brilliant! Looked Ginger up on Google. Apparently the Chinese have used it for thousands of years. If anyone decides to try it, would love to know your findings. Take care all.

Another sweet treat I get in for winter months, (have to go careful because of the syrup) is Opies stem ginger root in Syrup, great if you have a cold or sore throat and soooo good at sorting things out I guess you could make your own to keep in store during winter months. My mother eats a whole jar of this when she has a cold, no way I could do that because of the sugar in the syrup but I do take 2-3 chunks of the ginger in syrup 2-3 times a day if I have a cold threatening.
I use Ginger in a lot of my Cooking, it smells wonderful, and does help with Breathing Better. I also believe Beetroot is a Good Source of Oxygen Replenishment, I buy it Fresh , love it with salads & stews. xxx
Oh yes,such an underestimated vegetable is beetroot. Such a stunning colour to add to salads etc. Only thing I do find is,it can be messy and can leave those purple stains if dropped.....but no pain,no gain.(never to be left in reach of little ones fingers!!!)
I have ginger every day in my porridge, chopped and cooked with it. It's also good plus garlic for cooking vegetables. And agree about beetroot which I have grated with salad most lunchtimes. Though I have read it works better if it's cooked.
Does it matter if it is stem ginger, root ginger, crystallised ginger? My late husband was on some horrendous medication for rheumatoid arthritis for over 40 years and he found great relief in eating crystallised ginger to ease the constant nausea. I will certainly give it a go if there is chance of an improvement in my breathing. Thank you for posting Murphy.
Well today I'm most certainly learning about vitamins,supplements and just how versatile ginger can be. Its just like reading a book full of peoples own experiences,cooking tips and the benefits of store cupboard items,I for one,really never gave much thought. Yes just like reading a book,but its better because it all comes from our members far and wide,and their first hand knowledge etc. You dont get much better than that,do you?
I have been using a similar recipe for a few years, the major difference being that I used powdered ginger. Thanks for the info on how to concentrate natural ginger... Will start using this.
I have bought the three ingredients and written out what to do so shall definitely be having a go. How many times a day do you take 3/4 sips? Regards Ruth
Thanks for the info, no harm at all in giving it a try. No wonder the Chinese use a lot in their cooking. I have som ginger wine, maybe I shall get stuck into that too!
I never bother peeling, just grate it straight in the pot and boil, You strain it through muslin cloth any way so why bother. All homemade jam and chutney is made the same and we are all still here. Take care all.
Hi read your post it sounds very time consuming but with a good outcome. Will give it a try but being on holiday away fro the cold winter my phlegm is fairly well under control, however I see another forum member thinks well of ginger itself. It's all worth noting and trying when I get back to the good old UK
Takes a few minutes really and you can make enough for a week or more. In addition, anything natural is better than all the medication we keep filling ourselves with, especially when it actually works better.
Thank you very much for sharing this great recipe. I tried it and liked the spicy taste of it. The only thing is I donβt know how often to take it? Do you sip it all up in one go or take it morning and evening and in how much quantity? Sorry if my question sounds silly π
