Hi everyone I thought it's about time I updated you all .
Had my operation 8 th Oct , all went well ,no problems , drain removed after 3 days and minimal pain .Legs swelled up like elephants due to fluid and have only just returned to normal 😊. The only thing I couldn't hack was all the medication they gave you four times a day .The tablets made me so sick and I couldn't eat which was a shame as the food Inthe RBHis good .!!!
Anyway I came home after 10 days still felt pretty rough but after a couple of days started to pick up and begin to feel ' normal ' again .I had been home 5 days when I had to return to my Doctor's to have my drain stitch removed .All done , that same night went to bed. I hasten to add that since the op I have had a really annoying nonproductive dry cough , apparently when you have lung tissue removed it's quite common and it disappears after a couple of months. Anyway went to bed ,Inthe middle of night a coughing fit happened I felt something popped and I was laying in a bed of fluid .It was spurting out my scar but no pain .Called ambulance went to local hospital they wanted to put another drain into which I wasn't too happy about. The local hospital phoned RBH and they said I had to goback there , of which I did for another 4 days. Fluid eventually drained I was restitched and sent home .
The upshot is I'm doing really well although I can't do everything ......yet .The surgeon is very pleased with me and said considering when I saw him it had only been4 weeks post op I was amazing .I'm hoping I just get stronger each day as I'm not a defeatist I'm a fighter .I'm still a little breathless and on oxygen but that will soon pass. I hope this helps all of you who are being considered for LVRS .Don't hesitate to ask me any questions and I will try to answer them .
Love to you all Babs♥️♥️♥️

Dear Babs, You have been through the Mill. I was thinking the other Day how you were , then Up you Pop here. As you Know we both had Different Procedures for Lung Reduction. I do hope now you get to the place you want to be , I am still with 02, but Breathing better. Please keep us updated Hun. Sending lots of Love. XXXXX
Well done Babs, you are over the first few weeks which can be quite arduous and painful and hopefully set on a gentle upward curve towards less breathlessness and more mobility.a little exercise everyday will certainly in this case keep the doctor away but obviously you now know your own body very well so steady as she goes.
So pleased, and very encouraging for all those who are thinking of LRVS. And I agree about the food in RBH. I think they don't distinguish between NHS and private patients. Maybe not quite so much choice? it all seems to be going in the right direction.
Hi, I'm so pleased for you that your operation finally seems to have helped you despite some hair raising episodes along the way. Here's hoping you get even better xx
Thanks for the update. I’m glad you’re doing well other than those scary moments in the middle there. I hope you continue to make a good recovery and keep feeling better all the time. 💐
Oh dear Babs what an ordeal!! It’s good you are a fighter, probably what got you through it all.
Well done. Sounds like now you are definitely on the "up" after your LVRS. Look after yourself...be kind and allow time to heal. Very interested to learn how you go over the next few weeks. I wonder if you'd share your experiences with us all as its invaluable to gain first hand knowledge etc. No pressure.... Only if you want to!
Hi Babs, I was getting a bit worried that we hadn’t heard from you. Your experiences were similar to me, three or four days after they let me go home, my lung filled with fluid, and my feet swelled up. I was taken back in, and filled with anti bios, and drained. I agree the lovely food was wasted on me too, nauseous and no appetite. I’m glad you are making progress, it’s a long process. All the best, Laura
Good to know you are on the mend . You sound so positive which I'm sure will be a help to you're recovery. Take care though- don't run before you can walk!!x
