Recently I made contact with a person who had received injections for Psoriasis following a period on a tablet form, I've now lost the posting and would like to know the name of the injection please.

2greys,

Thanks for reply and I have emailed to find out if she had any side effects, but no that was not the posting I lost but it may give me some leads. The person had been taken off the same med I was on Amatixaline or something like that which gave me an adverse reaction to my lung problem.

Thanks for the info however, very grateful.

Hi Keith, i suffer from severe psoriasis and am currently on a 12 week injection called Stelara, previously i was on methotextrate injections weekly. I have been under the dermatologist at the hospital for years and have had numerous injections, potions and uvb treatments etc, so happy to share my experiences x

Hi and thank you for your response, so you have done the methotextrate route but mine was in tablet form, and now been moved onto an injection called Stelara, have you experienced any side effects,? do you know if it can be used with other meds for other medical problems? importantly has it improved your skin any? how long have you been on it? A bundle of questions sorry if I am asking too much.

Hi Keith, i have done every route lol x. Acetretin cleared my skin, but made my hair fall out, methotextrate tablets and injections, again cleared my skin but had an effect on my liver, took both acetretin and meth for two years each. I have been on stelara for 1 year now with no side effects, cleared my skin within weeks, which was covered 85% of body (reaction of coming of methotextrate) for six weeks. I had lots of blood tests and a chest xray before i was given the all clear to start stelara and it is the best thing that the hospital has given me. Before going onto the injections i puchased a uvb narrowband canopy with the same tubes they use in the hospital and that worked great as well, But my derm consultant wasn't happy with me doing that because i have had cancer twice in the past. Stelara definately the best thing i have been offered, and if they take me off it, i would go back to the uvb light therapy and self administer if i had to x

Hi Keith, sorry forgot to mention, Stelara does have its complications, ie it affects the healing process of wounds and makes you more susceptible to infections, so you must advise a dentist or hospital that you are taking Stelara so that they can monitor you more closely and give you antibiotics as a standard procedure. It can compromise the upper respiratory system if you get an infection but your consultant should advise you about that, but todate i have not suffered one single side effect and have been fortunate not to have had a cold or anything worse in the past year or so..

Hi, thanks for response, You sound like you've had the lot like me, except I haven't had the injection and from what you are saying I probably won't get that. It appears to have an effect on the immune system and other things. I was taken off methetrexate as it was possibly effecting my immune system, I have emphysema & bone marrow cancer, I have a host of meds to take for the emphysema and an IV injection for the Bone Marrow. Likely a no no on the stelara as the same precautions apply regarding dental treatments etc. I might have to try the light treatment, which I have had already but i a cubicle, where did you get it or how did you procure it?

Hi Keith, don't give up on the Stelara, if you are offered it, take it. ...i thought it may compromise my immune system, but to date it hasn't. The acetretin and methotextrate in comparision were horrendous I bought a 9 tube canopy from Much Better skin, it cost me 1360.00, but worth every penny, and at least it is a back up if i have to come off the injections, and is of course drug free...

Hi again thanks for info. I had the same problems with Acitretin, my hair fell out , it removed ALL body hair & removed all my foot nails and made my hand nails very brittle that they broke off. Methotrxate reduced the immune system which is why they wont let me back on it again, had at least 2No periods on it & unfortunately ended up in hospital 2/3 times as immune system went walkabout.

I will try my dematologist to see if she will talk to my lung & heamatologist specialists, if they say yes I'll badger her to start me on the injections. Thanks again will keep the light unit on the back burner until I get an answer.
