Are you on oxygen? I am on it 24/7 but I just am trying a new inhaler soon and I don"t know any thing you use.

There is only one alternative to Ventolin (salbutamol). It is called Bricanyl (terbutaline sulfate).

It is a powder delivered via a Turbohaler, so you have to suck it quite hard. One puff 4 times a day as required. I have been using it for a couple of years now because Ventolin stopped working for me. The amount of powder is very small you will not notice it at all and there is no taste either.

I think, if your inhalers are not working well for you, you need to go back and talk to your gp or specialist. It could be you are experiencing an exarsperation or you may need more meds or different meds we are all different so sometimes it can take a bit of trial and error to find a combination of meds that sutes you. I hope you are feeling better soon

Definitely see your gp or get referred to a Respiratory nurse if you can. I had problems for months with breathlessness and one visit to the nurse and she changed my inhaler and everything improved. Best wishes, hoping you get it resolved ASAP.

Perhaps a chat with your respiratory physician is due?

I have mild emphysema and bronchiectasis and Fostair twice daily + spiriva respimat once per day are enough. Only ever use blue inhaler if I have to climb ( which I don’t ) perhaps you are brewing an infection or it’s down to something else. Hope it eases soon for you. Cx

I have chronic asthma and now COPD and I find if I am having more problems on the COPD front, then I need to take my Ventolin using a volumatic for it to have any effect. Have you tried this?

in reply toAnnaMT

I think ventolin is ok for asthma not for good in my case

AnnaMT what is volumatic

If the meds that you are on are not working for you, go back to your doctor and have him/her try a different one. What works for one person, may not work for another.

Also, I take ventolin in a nebulizer, and that works for me. I also have a percussion vest that helps loosen the mucus in my lungs.

Shortness of breath is part of having bronchiectasis. But, you can minimize the sob by keeping the lungs clear, and the airways open (ventolin or other steroid).

Exercise if and when you can to help strengthen the lungs, even if it's just walking around the house and/or breathing exercises.
