I have been in Carbocisteine for bronchiecstasis. Respiratory nurse said I should take Nacsys effervescent tablets instead - not sure if its because it’s a cheaper drug. 🤔. Anyone else changed into this and if so have you found it as effective? Many thanks.

I have never been able to tolerate carbocysteine and found nacsys much better. A fizzy drink tasting a bit of lemon.
Hi maddie I changed over on docs advice after being on carbocysteine for 6yrs and have been taking nacsys 600mg effervescent tablets once a day for 3yrs now and I have found the results amazing. 1 fizzy tablet in the morning and more energy than when on carbocysteine due to not building mucus up in the middle of the day and dropping in strength as before. I take my ventolin and the nacsys then do clearance and after that take my seretide. Good luck hope it works well for you
Hi. Thanks for reply. I will give the tablet a try. Hoping for more energy as feel fatigue all the time. Never thought of maybe carbocisteine being part of the cause.
Well I used to take 2 x carbocysteine 8am ,midday and evening and they used to wear off and cause a real dip in energy for me an hour before the next dose.this doesn't happen with nacsys or acetylcysteine as long as do the routine of clearance techniques in the morning every day. Hopefully it will be an instant resolution for you as it was 2 days in and the difference was a revelation for me.
I wish I could be prescribed them instead of carbocysteine which I don’t get on with!
But unfortunately it turns out via the GP and Respiratory Consultant that they’re not approved by my Health Authority where I live so I can’t get them 🤷♀️
I use a herbal remedy called Mullein because I also couldn't tolerate carboisteine. For me it is very effective
I’ve never taken carbocysteine but my oncologist suggested Nacsys and I feel my breathing has improved. I highly recommend it and it’s quite pleasant tasting. I have COPD and lung cancer
hi can’t take either drug took long time to realise how allergic I was
