The tiredness would have been caused by the Pneumonia. I take carbocisteine with no ill effects, but Pneumonia just wipes you out.

Hi Lina-61 I’m sorry that you are feeling so rotten. Pneumonia can knock you off your feet for months, especially with bronchiectasis which is in itself very debilitating. I have never been able to tolerate carbocysteine. It makes me feel sick. I nebulise saline instead to thin the mucus.

Are you seeing a bronchiectasis specialist or a general respiratory consultant? It’s important that you have the bronch specialist as they tell your GP how to treat you. General respiratory consultants are not trained in bronch or have the experience in it as it is comparatively rare compared to copd. Bronch is very complex, we are all different and our needs change quite frequently. Your GP sounds very caring but maybe you need one of the other forms of treatment. I fight constantly to keep my weight up. I lost over a stone when I had the pneumonia in 2015 and have managed to put about half back on. It’s very frustrating isn’t it.

Yes saw a bronchiectasis specialist and he advised what medication to give to me gp gave me an inhaler but nothing mentioned in correspondence it was a steroid nasel spray so not used it now I have the nasel spray buy double checked with the consultant secretary and she confirmed but will see what nurse practitioner says on Wednesday

Thanks

Did the specialist advise the GP which antibiotics to give you to keep at home in case of an exacerbation?

I tried it once and made me feel really sick and bad tummy cramps, I also have that if I try Benylin max chesty syrup too. I would speak to the dr, but sometimes once the body gets used to it the side effects wear off.

Carbocysteine doesn't work for everyone Lina - I couldnt get on with it at all. It made me cough and get asthmatic, kind of the opposite of what you want!

Pneumonia can make you feel exhausted for months. You lose a lot of weight which makes it worse getting back to normal. You dont say what your normal bmi is but 16 is too low. You could ask your doctor for a referral to a dietician to help you put on some weight. Do hope you feel better soon. :)

I do see a dietician as I started loosing weight when I came off antidepressants after 21 years with help from the gp I put my weight loss down to my body getting back to normal but I have continue to lose weight since then I was only 8st before going on medication antidepressants make you put weight on my body had been messed up with lots of different meds through trial and error and nothing works even new antidepressants which gp put me since he I was depressed I wasn't just wanted to know what was wrong me I also have MS

Lina

I had to stop carbocysteine as without warning projectile vomiting would occur.......thankfully never outside !!!!! I haven't dared take it since. 😱

Hi I can’t take carbocisteine the capsules make me shake uncontrollably which is very frightening and the liquid gives awful cold sweats. I do react to a lot of medication in fact I dread being prescribed anything new. Hope you feel better soon Barbs x

It’s not good when you react to medication especially when your re@ction is not on the patient leaflet. I recently was put on furosemide for swollen feet. My reaction was I felt extremely anxious and panicky almost like I couldn’t cope. I went to see my new doctor, this was the first time I’d met him, he went all through the stages of mental health, in fact by the time I left I believed I really had a mental problem. He gave me some Valium (not called that any more) and said he would see me in 2/3 weeks. Anyway I suspected it could be the new medication so I stooped taking it and low and behold I was right as rain within a few days. I went to see him 3 weeks later to introduce myself properly and explain it was the furosemide. He wouldn’t have it and still believed I had a mental problem. When I went home I researched “could Furosemide cause anxiety” and sure enough yes it can. I printed off the information and dropped it into the surgery. Needless to say I have changed my doctor. I wonder why some of these GP’s think they know your body better than you do. Sorry hope you like my story lol take care Barbs x

I take Carbocisteine and it does give me stomach problems, seems to sit there like a lead weight plus have a lot of wind since taking it. Also if I have a bit of reflux just after taking it it really burns the inside of the mouth and no amount of drinking stops the burning for about half an hour.

I'm due a review in the summer so will see then what they decide about meds.

Hope you are feeling better soon.

X
