Thanks to all you lovely folk who took the time to try and help me. But , unfortunately my worst fears were realised. At my hospital the head of department insists on ALL CLOTHES OFF except for panties and socks.

Update on dexa scan anxiety
I'm sorry to hear that. At my dexa scan I only had to remove anything metal, so most of my clothing stayed on. I hope you feel better now it's over and done with xx
That m ust have been so unnerving for you. Hope results are fine with the scan, please keep us informed. Take care get a good night's sleep.
😊 Bernadette xx
Very sorry to hear that. It must have been quite upsetting especially as you weren't expecting to have to. Hope you are ok now.
Well I’ve never heard of that before! How unnecessary.
So sorry we weren’t able to,prepare you. Try to relax now....hope your results are good.
That seems totally unnecessary to me and I know that Pete didn’t strip off! It’s done now so hope you’re ok. Xxxxx
That was Unnecessary, so sorry you had to do this, hope your ok now Hun. All my Years of Scans & X.rays, never had to take all off. I Was always prepared by not having a Bra on, wore baggy T shirt & leggings, That is acceptable in the two Hospitals I go to regularly. have a Good nights sleep now. xxx
Oh wow Tilantoe . When I had it done I had on a hospital robe. Nothing underneath , but at least a robe. That's really odd and I'm sorry you had to go through that. *hug* 😔
Must have been a nightmare for you, and so unnecessary. Time consuming and extra laundry for the hospital if you need to wear a gown. I can't do them gowns up so most embarassing, no one there to help. Hope you have recovered from the ordeal and hope all is well on your results, I got mine this week all clear.
Sorry to hear it went so badly for you. Hope the results of the scan are what you want to hear.
I’m sorry you had to go through all that. I hope you are feeling calmer now xx
I am sorry to hear that. Like other people have said, I only had to make sure no metal fastenings. I don’t know why it is different where you are. Surely they should all follow the same clinical guidelines?
It is down to head of the department how they want it to be done so the radiologist told me. She did not agree with it either. As other hospitals she had worked at did not work like that.
Well the head of the department obviously couldn't care less about the dignity of the patient. I wonder what sex the person is? I'm so sorry Tilantoe. IT must have been just horrible for you. 😳
Not great when that happens as makes it ten times worse some make you take clothes off some just no metal never know till last minute
Hope results are ok take care
My hospital just said to take necklace and rings off and as long as I had no metal clips on I could stay as I was. Poor you
Mine was a bone density scan I was fully dressed apart from shoes as they just scanned the hip and leg area
Hi Tilantoe, that should not have happened. Patients must be allowed dignity! No metal to be worn, or on clothes ie zips, jeans etc. Bra to be removed because of metal fasteners. Own clothes or 2 hospital gowns can be worn for cover, as already mentioned by others.
You could report this as inappropriate to the Hospital Managers.
Oh no poor you. I was going to enquire if I needed one- been on steroid tablets and inhalers for a couple of years now- won't ask now!
It was because of all the steroids I had to have one. Please don't not have one because of my experience. The radiologist told me it was not a hospital policy. It.was down to the head of the bone department who insists on it. Apparently they dictate how it will be done. Unfortunately at my hospital he insists for bone scans to be done this way. She did not agree with it either and has asked if it was really necessary as other hospitals don't work like that. His reply was that is how he works. And while he is in charge that is how it's going to be. So your hospital probably won't make you take your clothes off. As a lot of people on here did not have to. I think mine is more an exception to the general rule. Just ask before you go.
Hmmmmm makes me think that H of D likes to humiliate women patients. As there is no need for it then he is being spiteful.....power crazy.
What a self important jerk. People feel anxious enough as it is going for a test of any kind but to be made to undress for no good reason is just inexcusable.
Tilantoe, I am so sorry to hear of your experience! I've had a handful of these scans, never had to do more than remove metal and I was usually on daily prednisone. When this horrible experience settles a bit, I hope you find the strength to report this experience to either the medical director or the chief of staff. Document everything about the experience, because it may be that this individual has had other complaints lodged against them.
Wishing you all the best, take care of yourself.🕊🕊

Never heard of that before Tilantoe. When I had my scan I kept my clothes on. Only said remove anything metal. Take care. X
Wow! First time I heard of it, you must have been freezing. Well it’s over and done now for the next 2 or 3 years!
Take care my dear.

I am so sorry you had to go through that. It sounds to me like this guy is on some kind of power trip (I have the power to make people strip and there is nothing they can do about it). Just the fact that it is not a blanket policy, and not how any other hospital does it, tells me it's a power trip of some kind. There is absolutely no medical reason for his "policy". Here in the states, if you need to be out of your street clothes they give you a hospital gown.
I agree with Daisy47, I would start by reporting this man to the hospital administrators, and go up the chain of command from there.
Strange - I had mine done fully clothed
Dear Tilantoe,
Please DON'T think that I'm, in any way, Belittling your genuine fears but....This scan is carried out, by professional people, and ONLY they See you. You are not, being asked, to show your genitalia (Private Parts), except your breasts. Here again, this ONLY in front of Doctors/ Nurses. This scan only takes, a matter, of minutes and the results, that are gained, can Help you. I, really do, understand how you feel but...Can you not just Allow/ Put Up With, this Embarrassment for the good of your health? It will be All Over, in 'No Time'.
As I said, right at the beginning, I'm NOT unsympathetic to your Fears. Heck I share, a lot, of them myself! However I, have Trained myself, to accept these Things- provided it is for a SHORT time, and to my benefit. Just try to Relax, easier said than done- I KNOW- and just let, it all, Wash Over You. If you have a Special Place, in your area- or Home- hold, that image in your mind. (What colour was that rose? Do you remember Grandma's special recipe? Where did you find that, lovely rock, again? Where did you have your boat? Do you remember the colours, of THAT sunset? What was the name of her dog?)
Trust me Tilantoe you WILL be, absolutely fine, and that's a Promise.
Think of US, if you want to, we are ALL 'rooting' for you.
