Pleurisy #4

Hi all. I'm in bed as I write this, recovering from my 4th bout of pleurisy. I may be imagining it, but it seemed even more painful than usual this time. I mean it was so rough. It's always bad, but this time I actually found myself feeling like I might pass out due to the pain.

Despite this my bloods and xray were clear, and I was sent home from hospital almost straight away with pain killers and anti-inflammatory meds. This worried me because on every previous occasion I've been hospitalised and given IV antibiotics.

I guess I'm just writing because I'm scared they missed something. Has anyone out there had any post-pleurisy diagnoses that might fit with what I experienced? Rheumatoid issues etc? I have an appointment with a rheumatologist next week on an unrelated matter, but maybe it won't be unrelated after all, which is another reason I'm feeling particularly anxious this time around.

Thanks for reading.

Hi saldun70

I have never had pleurisy so can't help you with advice though I'm sure someone will from this site. I just wanted to wish you all the best as it must be quite scary wondering what's going on!! Take care and all the best 😀😀😀

Thank you. I once heard a woman on the radio say if she had to choose which to experience again, she'd take childbirth over pleurisy any time!

Thanks for your kind words.

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind.

Hope you are feeling a bit better, we all pray for that slight improvement when we wake up. Over what time span have you had this 4 times? I have had it 3 times only one was unbearable when I thought it was something else and like you “have they missed something” the others were bearable although still very painful. But pleurisy is a very painful lung infection which brought me to tears only once! Keep us updated.

Thanks. I had it first in 2000, then 2006, then 2008, and now in 2018. A strange timespan to my mind...

I believe it can, just. It shows as a small dark patch. But I do say that with no expert knowledge, so don't rely on me too much; plus I was under duress when shown the xrays!

Nope you’re not imagining it. I recall it being worse every time back when I was getting it all the time too. Although I recall being given water pills and potassium along with the anti inflammatory. My good news is: I haven’t gotten it for so long I don’t remember when the last time was. I have the whole CoPD bit and they tried to tell me I had Emphysema but I wasn’t buying it so I sought out multiple Dr opinions. It just so happened I started taking really good care of myself: exercising daily, eating and drinking tons of greens, getting plenty of time outside and the almighty sleep. I haven’t been really sick sick in almost 2 years( in the respirarte área) got more muscle/skeletal problems now. I still don’t breath great but the pleurisy and pneumonia’s seem much more rare these days than before. I’m really sorry you don’t feel well but this is a good place to complain about it cuz nobody will hold it against you it’s why we’re here. Good luck and best wishes for a super speedy recovery

Thanks for getting in touch, Sandyeggo. I'm seeing a rheumatologist tomorrow so hopefully that will get the ball rolling on some definitive answers.
