Just finished 3rd course of prednisone since the end of May. I now have high blood pressure, a pulse which is greater than my oxygen level, weakness in upper leg and arm muscles (takes forever to get upstairs to bed), a scraze on my shin which won't heal and now I've got red blisters on my palms and fingers which are very sore to touch.

I never needed oxygen before May but doctor said I needed it. I have been taking spilolto respimat for about 2 months. Has anybody had these symptoms with the uses of the steroid and inhaler.

I don't think I've ever felt this bad, I was diagnosed with emphysema 6 years ago.

Hi Pat I know just how you feel, I get grazes on my arms and legs and bruise so easily. I am now on ambulatory oxygen whilst out walking. I refuse to take steroids unless I really have to. 😊 Bernadette xx

Hi Bernadette I'm probably boring people talking about being on 11th box of 18 boxs of prednisone my weight has ballooned now on rabbit food diet..can anyone person refuse to take them my consultant has a huge ego..maybe that's not fair.I've been on courses of steroids most of my life but never to this extent already have osteoporosis in spine and hip I'm male.My last consultant who sadly passed away would only give me them last resort is and I tried to explain this to new man but he muttered something and showed me the door,Ger

I am sorry to read about your plight. I have been on Predisone for about four years and inhaled steroids. It has weakened my skin, so I bruise easily and thinned my hair. However, I have a normal blood pressure and no weakness in my muscles. Everyone is different and we react to medication differently. However, another train of thought is it's not the medication. Even changes in the body as we get older can bring on hypertension, and , being overweight or some people are even genetically predisposed to it. Problems with our glands or thyroid and sleep apnea can cause high blood pressure. I would definitely discuss these issues with your doctor.

Thanks for your reply. Doc prescribed water tablets for high blood pressure. He also thought the weakness was steroid related so I'm hoping for an improvement. I'm slightly underweight but carry portable oxygen machine most of the time which is quite heavy. I was just wondering whether anybody else had the same problems.

I just started taking Pred this morning and have been having problems going to sleep and realized my heart beat was over 100 which is not usual so am guessing or hoping it is related to the Pred. I am also taking Spiolto for about a year and a half or so. I don’t have the muscle weakness but then you have been taking the Pred a lot longer than I have.

Thanks for your response. Do you have any side effects from the Spilolto? Hope you don't have to take the pred for too long.

The only thing I think is from the Spiolto is heartburn or GERD. Other than that have not noticed any other side effects. I am hoping it is just one five day course of Pred.

Hi jackdup . Predisone definitely gives me insomnia. So I have to take medication to help me sleep. 😔

Hi Caspiana. Always nice to hear from you. It is unfortunate we need to take medication to offset the side effects of another medication but many tines there is no choice, and it is nice that there is medications that can give us some relief.
