The ball of my right foot started to ache yesterday. I rubbed a bit of ibuprofen gel and it made it worse. I've since read that you must not put the gel on broken skin. My feet are very cracked and dry. I'm wondering if this is why my foot is so much worse. It is very painful. Has anyone ever used ibuprofen gel on broken skin? How long was it until the symptoms subsided?

Painful foot
These creams/gels should not be used on broken skin or after having a bath or shower, when skin pores are open.
Years ago I used a spray ibuprofen on a sore shoulder after having a bath, thought my body was going to explode!!!
Oh no! How long did the exploding feeling last for? I'm not sure if my pain is just due to foot injury or from using the ibuprofen gel on my broken skin. I didn't know it couldn't be used on broken skin 😧
Oh dear - might be time to take some advice......can you get to a pharmacist???
Personally I would find out the cause of the pain before using any medication to relieve pain etc. I would advise a trip to your Doctors as the pain that your describe in the ball of your foot could have a number of causes plus the dry and cracked skin may be part of the problem. As you have a number of problems I feel that more expertise is required to guide you in treatments etc.
Thank you for your replies. I went to see a pharmacist yesterday and he thought it was caused by the friction from wearing sandals, which I have been wearing all summer, but the dry cracked skin has contributed to it. He said rest it and take paracetamol and it should go on its own. It does actually feel a little better this morning so going to continue resting it!
This prolonged dry warm weather affects our feet badly, if your feet are so cracked and dry I rub them with castor/olive oil and put socks on at night, the next morning your feet will feel so soft, after a couple of nights you can then soak them and rub off the dry skin. Hope this helps, it works for me. Irene x
My thought is that it may be a plantar wart or even a callous? If you run your finger over the sore portion of your foot do you feel something around the size of a bebe or a small pea? I have a callous on my left foot right dead snack in the middle of the ball of my feet. I've had it frozen off more than 3 times (originally my primary physician thought it was a plantar wart) and sadly these will grow back, at least mine did. My podiatrist informed that it is not the P Wart, but a callous. When it begins giving me pain again I use callous removal pads. They generally work very well! There's a small medicated disc that you apply directly over the bump, then there are cushion pads that you will apply to ease your pain of walking.
I'm sorry this ended up to be so long. But there just seemed to be so much to say. Take care of yourself!! 💖
monkeytoad38. If you have COPD you should not be using ibubrufen, it's not good for lungs.
Just so you know , I am a lung cancer six year survivor, top lobe right lung surgically removed, 2 months maximum radiation, 2+ years chemotherapy , stage 3 COPD and on oxygen 24/7,............and I take one or two ibuprofen every night. Ask your Dr about ibuprofen, Best Wishes, judg69
