Some of you may remember my post a few weeks ago telling you of my broken wrist sustained during a totally mad moment when I thought it was a good idea to try and stand on the kids hoverboard!
Well, since then, I've managed pretty well to be independent and have found all sorts of ways of managing things. - so feeling pretty smug!
So, on Wednesday, I was in the shower - the broken wrist encased in my lovely bright pink cast which was itself protected by a Limbo waterproof cover.
With the cast on and the cover, I can't hold on to the grab handle that side so have been bending over to wash between my toes instead of lifting my foot up - have been doing this every day for a few weeks now, but on Wednesday my foot slipped and I fell back onto my bum - very heavily!
The bruise is finally working its way out - dear husband said, 'Well, it's got a lot of layers to get through!' (Don't worry, he'll soon recover!) and each day it's feeling a little less sore, but it's impeding my walking and bending.
So there you have it!
I am currently an official old crock!
What with the wrist, the bruised bum and the ex COVID cough still hanging about I think that's enough to be getting on with, don't you?
Never mind. The cast comes off on Friday and I expect I'll be able to walk properly again by then, so am looking forward to Christmas with the family and no more accidents!
Am having to do all this on my phone as, just to add insult to injury, my lap top is playing up. Hey ho! In the words of my late mother, 'Worse things happen at sea! '
I expect I'll be on again before Christmas, but in case my phone blows up or I go down with beri beri I'll wish you all a very happy Christmas and a happy new year.

Ah, yes, but that would be 'sensible' which is a word that currently seems to be missing from my vocabulary! 🤣But it's a good suggestion, of course and I might have to give it a go. Thank you. Xx Moy
Well, d'you know, the hoverboard incident has made so many people laugh and now they're all chuckling about my poor derriere so it's making me laugh too!The grandchildren are waiting for us to go there tomorrow so they can tattoo my cast and write all sorts of unmentionable things on it before it comes off on Friday, so they'll have a good laugh while they're doing it and heaven knows what they'll think at the hospital on Friday but if it gives them a funny story to tell when they get home, I'll be happy. They put up with so much grief!
I'm very much in the mindset of 'every cloud...' and also grateful that I haven't done permanent damage.
I missed this the first time you posted it Moy. Omg! Kids' hoverboard - what were you thinking?! Actually the kind of thing I would do. So sorry, that must have been very sore. Good you'll be sorted for xmas, but they say bad things come in threes, so break a plate just to be on the safe side. Happy healing
Funny you should say about breaking a plate - I was thinking that too! Then I thought it might not count if it was deliberate so I'll just have to take care. 🤣Xx Moy
Poor old you .I hope noting more can happen. Luckily beriberi doesn't seem to be very widespread at the moment. Hope you can get the cast off on Friday, but BE CAREFUL. You might feel unbalanced without it. My dear brother broke one arm and had not recovered the strength in that arm when some twerp bumped his bike. He couldn't hold it upright, fell off and broke the other arm. Moral: don't go biking too soon.🤣🤣🤣Have a very happy Christmas. xxx
Hahaha! My biking days are in the past as my spontaneous vertigo doesn't allow me to be on the roads. Just as well given your poor brother's experience. I will bear it in mind!Have a good Christmas. Xx Moy
Hi Dee it’s a thiamine deficiency (B1) and is treatable. There is wet and dry. One affects the heart and the other the nerves. Not nice and mainly in developing countries. Xx😘❤️
Sorry to jump in on Moys post but was wondering if HungryHufflepuff was doing ok up there in the bleak Scottish islands, please let her know we still miss her and wonder how her sheep are x
You must have been peeping! Rainbow is right. 🤣It's given all our friends and family such a laugh that it's made me laugh too! Reg has been helpful when needed but I took up the challenge of working out ways of being independent as much as possible. Every day I find something I can do that I couldn't manage the day before - it's like opening an advent calendar. 🤣Today I cut up my own bacon. Yay!
Walking disaster is about right! Just waiting for the third thing to happen then I can relax.I was on the tea rota at WI this week but the general concensus was that I shouldn't be anywhere near a teapot so I just got to hand out the mince pies instead. Can't do much damage with those! 🤣
I'll try and stay out of trouble for a bit now. They've got their work cut out in A&E already and don't need me joining the queue again.
I don't know what the weather is like near you but here we have had moderate snow which has turned to slush and then frozen so although I am whole in body, sort of, I dare not leave the house as the communal paths that take us to the main street and freedom are like rather bumpy ice rinks. When you have an oxygen tank and a mobility walker it's safer to stay home. I hope you are soon back to normal.
Yes, we got snowed on quite heavily last Sunday and it's still all over the paths and gardens. Roads are not too bad once you get onto the bus routes. But the ice is lethal and I'm being very, very cautious as I think there's an accident just waiting to happen. I would stay indoors if I could, but have appointments and arrangements with friends and family so just need to take care.
You're being sensible staying indoors. Keep snug and warm and have a good Christmas. Xx Moy
D'you know, the bruised bum is more painful than the broken wrist. I can't believe how awkward it is to bend over to pick something up or even to just sit down.Still, it could have been a lot worse if I had caught the coccyx so I'm counting my blessings.
And you have to admit, it's an interesting conversation starter! 🤣Have a good Christmas. Xx Moy
Oh good grief Moy! That sounds painful! Rather than making cheeky comments ask Mr Moy to bung some Arnica on the “area”, it’ll help bring the bruising out. When he’s recovered from the two black eyes you gave him, that is 😆
I do hope everything goes smoothly on Friday and you have a lovely Christmas with your family and no more “ incidents” x
What’re you like, Moy?! Your exploits are very entertaining and I SO admire your devil may care attitude but fgs don’t take any more risks! Your toes can’t be that dirty 🤣 & you don’t want to end up in hospital at Christmas, in the middle of a nurses’ strike! Give your poor husband a break for a few weeks 😊🥰
Thanks for your kind words. All should be fine on Friday when it comes off, although I understand I will still have a splint. My bum is not quite so sore tonight so, with luck, it will soon be back to normal. Xx Moy
I currently have a set up cannula on left wrist after having so many on right . I m bruised all over but not on the same place as you ! do you bruise more when you are older? I .did have to carry catheter on left hand while manoeuvering a drip stand and all accompaning ables and lines around using right hand ! When it changed to left hand i had to learn how to manouevre again as it turned out to be different ! You wouldnt believe it, ! Hope you soon are free to lead normal life but do not even approach the skateboard.
Wow! That all sounds really awkward. I get what you mean about having to learn how to manoeuvre again when you had to change hands. You have lots going on right now, don't you? Hope things soon improve. Xx Moy
you take care Mrs - you're worse than me (and that's saying something)!
I broke my hand and wrist (helping my elderly neighbour (because she's prone to falls 🙄)). I went flying & landed on my back my bumper crushing my hand.......word of warning, I did my six weeks in nice blue plaster, one of the bones hadn't healed so 4 more weeks in another plaster then a month in a splint .
Last summer I was trying out granddaughter's Segway & fell off backwards cracking my skull & had a nice dose of concussion. I haven't been the same since 🤪
Sounds like we should form a club for the daft and delusional! Segway, indeed! And you think I'm worse than you? That could actually be true, I suppose but I think it's borderline. 🤔
Let's grow old disgracefully, shall we?! 🤣🤣🤣Xx Moy
oh deary dear, after exchanging replies this morning I later came a cropper 🤕😭. I tripped up my own kitchen step, hit my nose & forehead on the bin, searing pain in my neck, hit the bone in my hand that broke before and somehow bruised my hip. I've a Steristrip holding the cut on my nose together & big lump on forehead . Feeling a bit sorry for myself , it really shook me up truth be told. Entirely my own stupid fault for walking around in my reading glasses. Grrrr
Just the dog! I saw stars at the time & staggered I bit but remained on my feet. Black eyes for Christmas think and I've promised myself one of the chains to attach the reading glasses - they're 3.50 so naturally they distort vision walking around. I've really learnt my lesson this time, I could have been wearing them coming downstairs but NO MORE. I'll get the chain tomorrow
You take care too ××× PS I deffo wouldn't do a bungee jump or hot air balloon, you've got no control. A solo parachute jump, that's something you can control yourself 😉
aw bless you for asking Moy, not bad at all, bruised forehead doesn't look too bad though I daren't take the Steristrip off the bridge of my nose yet. I'll get a chain for my glasses today from the nearby optician. How are you and your bruises?
Glad to hear you're not too bad.I have a very colourful posterior but now the bruising has come out properly it doesn't hurt much at all.
Just have both got this rotten winter virus that's doing the rounds. It's gone to my chest so on the pred and antibiotics. Felt better yesterday but not so good today.
Other half's got Man Flu so is MUCH worse! 🤣Seriously, I know he must be feeling really rough as he's left me to manage things that he never would normally. Poor old b****r!
We're very fortunate to have family and friends near if we need them but I think we should be fine again in a day or two. Meanwhile, the Christmas choccies are taking a bashing, so not all bad news! 😃
Hurry up and get your chain for your specs so you don't come a cropper again. Thought you would have sent the dog out for one by now. You'll have to do something about his training! 🤣Wise move to leave the steri strip in place, I should think.
oh no, get well soon Moy & the one with the man flu! My daughter - who I'm spending Xmas with has been ill in bed with similar for 4 days, passed it on to the baby & daddy - who of course is far worse. I wish I could go early to help but it'd probably finish me off! Good luck, stay warm n cosy ×××
Hi Moy, what about taking a hot air balloon trip, or a Bungee jump, for a change. 😂Only joking, hope u recover soon, u have a great sense of humour, your family must love u for it. Bernardine. 🤗🤗
It never rains but what it pours MoyB, Christmas wishes to you take care and hopefully you will be back to full form soon. Do take more care when your cast comes off and in this wet ,icy weather. xx
I have just 'Found' your Post, you Brave, Clumsy but Very Good Natured Person- thank you for the Laugh, at your expense😀😀😀.
Seriously though we have ALL had 'Those' Days..... The Alarm didn't Go Off, you later realise that you had Set It for 8PM! The Kettle 'fuses' all the lights, which means the Toaster won't work. For reasons NOT 'Properly Explained' the Shower is COLD, The Toilet won't Flush and the Milk Pan- that you Put On, to Replace the Kettle- '(you Knew it has a Mind of it it's own) 'Decides' to Boil Over...... Dripping Down into the Top Oven, as it does so.
You go through, to the Living Room, and turn on the TV- unfortunately that 'Dodgy' Arial Connection, the one that Brian 'did', picks that Precise Moment to Pack Up. You don't 'fancy' Climbing On The Roof, so you turn on the Radio- forgetting, of course, that it's the same connection. 'Never Mind', you say to yourself, 'I'll Read'- once again Forgetting that the Bulb 'Blew' on Sunday Night!
Two Hours later you are NOT very far, into your book, Trying To read by the Luminous Clock Face...... lf it's at THAT Moment that The Girls, Beverly, Rosa, Carol, Sam and Cloe Invite You OUT, for a Drink..... Just GO!!!!
I hope that I managed to Raise a Smile, on your face, Moy. Can I Wish you a very
