Vitamin D research

LAM action found that that Vit D protein is 2/3 lower in LAM patients.

So they also measured Vit D levels in blood and found they were lower than normal.

All that improved with Rapamycin

I must say in my case my Vegf-d ( LAM bio marker) is lower since I have started on Vit D and I am not on Rapamycin.

So they looked at other lung diseases patients and found that vit D was generally lower than the norm.

So check your Vit D levels, take your vitamin and enjoy the sunshine!

Good morning Fran. Yet more evidence that vitamin D holds such a huge importance to our health.

in reply to2greys

Good morning 2greys, what I am wondering is how about absorption.. well for me as I have LAM so this trait is in my genotype.

Still you know there has been a trend for years telling people dairy was mucus forming etc, so avoidance was better..I think it was detrimental because people confused dairy and lactose. Now we can have lactose free food, if we are intolerant.

Also we know we have long grey winters but now we have such hot summers and told not to go out. All in all our natural exposure to Vit D must be quite low.

Despite taking a Vit D supplement I was still under the norm so I have increased my vit D to 2 X 400 Solgar soft gel capsules as recommended by my GP. Will have another blood check in 3 months.

I am also on steroids which lowers vit D effects.

I didn’t get into LAM specifics but they also found another protein we have too much of called a1AG1, alpha-1-acid-glycoprotein, which is 2/3 higher than normal. And I am more interested in that part of the research.

Professor Johnson didn’t expand about that I think research is still going on. It was done on 160 patients.

The aim is to understand the severity or not of the disease in certain patients. He had a graph with 3 types Fev 1 in patients the red line sinked very quickly, the blue slowly, and the green was more or less horizontal so stable..

I found it very interesting. The video dates from 2017 but has just been published by LAM Action on Facebook.

Have a good day x

Hola Carolina,

I don’t expose myself much to the sun. I have a skin cancer risk and had a basocellular out a few years back.

So I have to walk around or swim with a 50 sunscreen feeling all white and sticky!!😃

Springtime sun was nice enough but at the moment I only walk on shaded pavements!

Enjoy the summer xx

Fran 🌼☀️🌸💕

Good morning Fran, a fascinating post thank you 😊. I suppose its easy for vitamin levels to be low without even knowing it...and with high factor sunscreens and a tendency for people to stay inside, it's worth checking!

I hope you're well at the moment and not suffering too much from the weather. Lots of love to you xxx

Ah well I'm glad you have a break from the summer heat for a while 😎 Its too hot here at the moment. Mercury hit 31 yesterday 😥. A little cooler today with some cloud. But yes it's sheer bliss not having to be up early and wrestle them all to school...😊. That in itself is heaven.

Have a lovely weekend too 😙❤

in reply tobreatheeasy1

Rain lasted 5 mns! It is unbelievably hot and heavy. We stayed in, went to the local swimming pool to cool down.

Glad you are not wrestling with the school run.

Love 💕
