I have been trying to get health insurance to travel to USA, I have sorted out oxygen but because I have heart and Lung disease plus arthritis, high blood pressure, I am unable to get insurance even though I am on all appropriate medications and have oxygen. Can anyone advise as I have tried the compare insurance site but that has drawn a blank.
Give a company called Towergate Insurance a call. They insured my daughter and I for 2 weeks in Florida at Easter - between us we have SVT, past intracranial surgeries (within the last 5 years), Cystic Fibrosis where there’d been multiple, unplanned and prolonged hospital admissions in the year leading up to our trip, and a number of other more minor conditions such as reflux, hypermobility and autism. Couldn’t get insurance via comparison sites, and even some of the medical insurers were unable to help when I spoke to them directly. Eventually managed to get 3 quotes, but Towergate came out over £400 cheaper than the next nearest price and we were able to set off with £5m medical cover each for less than £300. The medical underwriters Towergate use were great when I did the medical screening, actually asked appropriate questions and seemed to understand what I was talking about in a way StaySure certainly hadn’t - often with cf, once you’ve had more than 2 admissions in the 12 months before travel, even if they were planned to keep someone more well rather than because the person’s ill, a lot of insurers immediately bump the premium up by hundreds of pounds.
Good luck, hope you get it sorted without too much trouble.
Hi. try Flexicover travel insurance.... I tried just about every ins company going, and was refused, managed to get a policy with Flexicover, was a tad expensive still but at least they would insure my hubby.
Hi, I have the same problem so have had to give up looking, for one trip in a year I was quoted £1800 and they wouldn't even quote me for multiple trips. I now have to go to the private clinic (and pay) or wait in line for the Spanish Health system.
There have been people on this forum who have found travel insurance but I can't remember who or what company. Try BLF mrsmummy, she may remember.
Sorry for the tardy reply, I have had a rough week, had a nasty bug but over the worst now and would like to thank you for your reply,
I am begining to realise just how hard it is this Insurance for travel, it does make you wonder why as we are less likely to claim as we have and carry all of our medications and can sort the oxygen so in actual fact we are much less risk than possibly a person to whom has not been checked health wise to travel.
It may just be me winging but maybe someone in the insurance companies shold think of this, "logic"
WE use ALLclear for my daughter who is in remission from leukaemia. She also has seizures and Avascular necrosis with joint replacements she is now aged 20. Not cheap, but at least it's cover!
