COPD and BRONCHIOTASIS

I was in a Chemically induced coma for several weeks, when I came to and on top of my other illnesses i was diagnosed with bronchiotasis, the doctor was smiling when she told me the news, as if she was telling i won the lottery. Maybe she did not want to scare me as I already have, high blood pressure, anaemia, kidney disease, curvature of the spine, 13 spinal fractures, three crushed vertaebrae and I recently fell and broke both shoulders, both hips, my pelvis and my left arm. They want to operate but are reluctant as my lungs failed several times whilst in coma, i had to get dialysis and was totally unaware of what was going on. I am having difficulty breathing in this warm weather, can anyone recommend anything I can do to help my breathing? I bought a fan for my bedroom and an air purifier for the living room. The doctor has not changed my steroid intake or changed my inhalers. I cough up lots of horrible stuff all day long, I am a wheelchair user and i cannot go anywhere as I cannot have lunch with people and cough up gunge and I am not fit to run to the toilet. Any advice would be great, I am at my wits end. Thank you for taking the time to read this and god bless you if you reply.

Hi garci39767. Sorry you feel so poorly. I can't help really with what' going on with you but when I was diagnosed with bronchiectasis the doctor prescribed antibiotics 3 times a week and spiolto respite inhaler. The gunge and the cough are so much better. Take care. Jane

So sorry you are having to deal with such complex health issues.

As you have been diagnosed with bronchiectasis, I am assuming you have already had a ct scan. You really do need to be referred to a respiratory consultant who has a special interest in cf/bronchiectasis. They should refer you to a resp physiotherapist who would show you different techniques you can use to clear you lungs. Once you have set time aside to clear your lungs you may find you will be able to go out for meals again without coughing to the same extent as you do now. The con would also help with breathing issues. Sounds like it would be helpful for your cons to liaise i.e. copy letters to each other.

Let us know how you get on.

Love cx
