...of course, I'm in the US so we don't have such high falootin' rituals on such a grand scale but, perhaps because of my age and the "experience" that goes with it, for the past few days every time I've heard mention of "the wedding", automatically and without effort, the Stones' "Beast of Burden" pops into my head and uncontrollably rolls around in there for several hours:

Ha Ha. But on a point of detail I found that private weddings in the US were far more lavish and expensive than their equivalent in the UK. Some weddings over your side of the pond spent more on 'showers' prior to the wedding day than Brits spend on a wedding, albeit that type of spending is distributed around the guests as much as the family!

Lived and worked 2 years in Houston in the early 80's. Perhaps Texans aren't representative particularly back then in oil boom days
