Hi yes there is a waiting list. A lung transplant isn't suitable for everyone and you have to be pretty severe to get on it. Normally your consultant would sort all this out for you so why not ask yours about it? Good luck. x
Hi joseph, i was sent by my consultant to wythenshaw to see a transplant surgeon, even then there are more steps, which include a 3 day stay to assess suitability. That was 2 years ago, he strongly suggested that i held out for as long as i could due to the enormity and dangers that such a big operation entails. There is quite a lot of information obout transplants on the web, including the nhs website. Best wishes
Thank you Steve for getting back to me I have now been on this journey for a 1 1/2 uears myself, I made it through the 3 day assestement on the Jim Quick Ward plus I have been back for many more tests and spoke to a number of surgeons. On my last visit I heard about the Waiting List and also the Active Waiting List? and I just wordered if there were two different lists or are you put on one if less severe, monitored then possibly esculated to the Active List if you get worse?
Sorry joseph, you obviously know much more than me on the subject, it wil be interesting to us in the earlier stages if you post your progress so we know what to expect.
Hi Joseph, the only thing I know is that if I have a chest infection or am taking antibiotics, I have to be taken off the active waiting list until all is well at which point I am put back on. This may be what the doctor was referring to. Certainly when the procedure was explained to me at the Freeman Hospital, they never mentioned any other list.
Hi Joseph, Right now, I am on the Transplant List for Double Lung. I am not at the top, or middle, or Bottom, but I am on the" Active"List, if Lungs are a match for me then I will be offered them immediately. That's how it was explained to me by The Transplant Team at QE Birmingham Transplant Unit.. Best Wishes, Carolina XXXX
