What do you love about pulmonary rehabilitation?

We've done a great article on our site focusing on some of the main reasons why people with a lung condition often really enjoy pulmonary rehabilitation.

Here's a link to some of the responses that we got (feel free to add yours in the comments section below!)

Thanks

I love the fact that almost everybody talks about it! BUT at 85 I have never been offered it.

Perhaps I am just considered over the hill and a waste of time?

Sorry Ben!

If you want to to Pete ask you GP to refer you as it might be beneficial to you. Enjoy.

I have asked on several occasions but to no avail. I do my own rehab - mow the lawn and dig the weeds out, so as the weather improves so do I.

What reason does your GP give Pete. I was never offered it by primary or secondary docs. I asked my GP. At that time, not sure if it still is, it was very COPD oriented and they knew very little about bronchiectasis and the talks really weren’t all helpful or relevant to bronciectasis. The excercise was excellent though. So I might be on my own here but I didn’t love PR.

I was referred to pulmonary rehabilitation by the specialist at the hospital, went on the waiting list, but when I got to the clinic for assessment by pulmonary nurse, I was considered unsuitable as I was not ill enough. Apparently you have to be at stage 3 here to get the help you need.

flicky1, I think you have the answer! I don't even think I have COPD, I am simply a life long atopic asthmatic.

The surgery spend vast amounts of time arguing with each other about me.

I find lack of listening and attention is a major problem.

Just completed pulmonary rehab course referred by GP. Just also celebrated 90th birthday so age not a problem for referral.

Pulmonary rehab worth pressing for if only to counter medics view that nothing can be done to improve quality of life with various forms of COPD.

In my case medicinal treatments greatly altered after contact between physio and GP. Physios seem to have much more specialised knowledge re provision of emergency packs, specific inhalers etc.

Well worth pressing for referral at any age.
