New to asthma

Hi, I'm a 35 year old male, very fit until 3 weeks ago. Since then I've had a tight chest and breathlessness, CRX have been clear, as have bloods. Tested positive for coronavirus hku1, not sure if that's relevant. Not usually asthmatic, but hospital suspect asthma.... although until recently been running 20 miles a week with no ill effect.

I'm currently on a 3rd course of prednisolone, and fostair and ventolin inhalers, none of which seem to help a great deal. How long do asthma flare ups usually last? I'm so down about it all.... any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Luke

Hi, yes I do have long term use experience of Prednisolone but feel it is essential to point out that for the purpose of PF not asthma. Obviously it is of fundamental importance that each medical condition is dealt with accordingly. The one thing I do agree with is maintaining one's fitness levels and I applaud you for that. At present I am rehabbing a compression fracture of L4 and unfortunately that is affecting breathing . I would suggest you contact specific asthma sites regarding medication but if I can assist with fitness following this then do not hesitate to contact me.

Thanks Adrie, unfortunately I'm unable to do any fitness other than walking at the minute due to my chest tightness.

I was hoping someone may have similar symptoms to me, lasting the same amount of time etc.....

Hi, I was diagnosed with asthma about 6 months ago so I know how you feel! Kinda woke up one day and struggled exercising! The lack of exercise is so frustrating! I can’t offer that much advice as it’s still new to me, but my consultant said that the asthma preventer medication takes time so stick with it. I also found montelukast was beneficial for me with the exercise, think it’s hit & miss though. Are you taking your peak flows morning & evening?

Not what you're looking for?
