This is my first time posting so bear with me! I had a chest infection which turned out to be pneumonia in July of this year (i am in my late 20s) and since then have been diagnosed with asthma.
How do you know when your inhaler is running out? I have tried tracking it but then i get busy and life happens and I forget.
I phoned my GP this morning for my repeat perscription and once again it is a 48 hour wait before it will be available for collection. The last time this happened i ended up having a full blown asthma attack in the middle of the chemist and I know i am not going to be able to wait 48 hours as I am already wheezing badly and have been awaks since 1.30 this morning.
If you get your prescription from the same pharmacists each month they will probably loan you one till your prescription is available so long you have requested it. I once bought a blue one from Asda for about £8 after a consultation with the pharmacist
Thank you both for your replies. I managed to get my breathing under control ladt night by sitting up with a hot drink and a healthy dose of greys anatomy lol
I am just going to phone down to GPs office today for an appointment at least then I can get a prescription right away and can just wait for it at the chemist. Thanks again!
Hello, hope you have managed your current problem of inhaler running out. Heres a tip ask your doctor for an extra one to cover emergency. If you use the recommended dose then they last for 25 days ventolin or other around 28 to 30 days. I have been through these problems many times due to the dispensing process. For example my chemist did not order in time for twenty eight day dispensing this month so I was told I could not get a prescription till the 30th when infact my prescription was due on the 24th as it was last dispensed on the 26th of last month. Always order before you are likely to run out as there is no way to speed up the process at the chemist. Hope you don't end up in hospital because of this. Good luck in future. PS another way is to ask for an emergency GP appointment .
Hi see if your chemist will pre order your inhaler for you then you don't have the problem of knowing when to order. My chemist does this for me and I get a text when the prescription is ready to collect. Ask your doctor about it if you see the doctor first.
Hiya no it goes straight through to the chemist from GP surgery.
Thank you for everyones replys you have all been a great help! I actually work on a respiratory ward and one of the doctors on duty prescribed me one (and scolded me for playing it down and not going to out of hours last night when i couldn't catch a breath lol) I picked up from the hospital pharmacy this morning and when i get my prescription from the chemist i will keep it as my spare.
Thank you all again.
I have 3 inhalers. The sirdupla is 2 puffs twice a day and has a little meter that shows how many doses left. The ipatropium is 2 puffs 4 times daily so I write the expiry on the can. The Ventolin is as required. I have no idea how much is left so I try to make sure I always have a spare. It would be great to have a little meter on the Ventolin but presumably it would be a much greater proportionate cost than it is for the sirdupla (and seretide previously).
Hi as soon as you get this scrpt filled put in the next one and explain that you keep running out. Then as soon as you finish your inhaler. Put the script in again. It takes a while to get used to all this. If you are using alot of ventolin. You need to go back to your gp as your control medication is not working. Try to relax getting stressed and anxious makes things worse. I have had asthma for 56 years.
