New to COPD and struggling.

Hi All.

I've been diagnosed as suffering from COPD which wasn't a shock as my Asthma appeared to be out of control.

I was discharged from hospital 2 days ago after a week long spell of tests and medications (steroids, antibiotics etc) which made a positive impact.

That was until I was discharged and found I was homeless(housemate not paying rent).

I'm now living in my vehicle and suffering from the damp weather and lack of food.

Every organisation I've contacted have tried their best but to no avail.

I was refused emergency accommodation because I have a dog. He's been the only thing that has stopped me from hitting rock bottom and entertaining thoughts no person should.

CAB have recommended a foodbank but this requires travelling which I can't do until I get my ESA in one weeks time.

So, basically, I'm sat in a vehicle parked at a motorway services (blue badge holder)where I feel safer than I would elsewhere, trying to make the most of a bad situation with no help.

I've never asked for anything until now but where is the help? Nowhere!

Can somebody please point me in a direction that may be of use....I really do need help.

Thanks for reading my negative post.

Oh dear not good. I thought at first you were in the USA where there isn't much help but in the UK there is. I would go through your doctor and tell them the situation as they could put you in touch with the right services.

If you are 60 or over also try Age Concern, Help the Aged or a similar organisation. Have a look at the Government site on Gov.UK. Good luck. x

Thank you for your reply.

I'm 55.

I'm actually miles from my doctors with no fuel to return.

Unfortunately my reaction was to run.

Not from debt but from my situation.

I suffer from depression and that is an unwanted reaction but one I can't help.

I'll keep trying but I just seem to hit dead ends.

It's as though every door is firmly slammed in my face.

I think Age UK deal with people 55 and over so they are worth a try. Have you no family/friends you could stay with temporarily?

Oh just had a though try contacting your council too and tell them you are homeless and asking them to find you temporary accommodation. Can someone take care of your dog for the time being? x

I don't have any family.

As for friends.....you soon find out who they are when you're ill.

Depression seems to scare people off.

Im not being negative towards any replies.....they're all really appreciated.

Go and see your council in person, tell them you are homeless with an illness and insist they find you temporary accommodation. Camp on their doorstep until they do. x

You’ve had some very positive helpful replies Lloydr1964 so I hope something good happens very soon.

Please don’t give up, we’re here for you. Xxxx

Don’t get me started on negative posts! Lol. I found once I was diagnosed everyone with any money split. I thought the planets would realign and the cavalry would ride in. Not! My Dr. said I’d be dead in 18 months. That was 11+ years ago. My own kids have become indifferent as it’s taking me too long to die!

You really need to see your doctor and explain your situation. With any luck they should refer you to adult social services who helped me when I found myself in a similar situation to you.

Try contacting the charity MIND too. They run hostels in some areas as well as meetings for people with mental health issues.
