Well I Never Knew proton pump inhibitors cause cancer

Was watching GPs behind fridge door last night and was shocked to hear proton pump inhibitors cause cancer.

Like really WHEN was my doctor going to tell me.

This few i have tried and everyone i have had nasty reaction too.

So am going ta do some heavy duty speculating WHY coz i can and why not.

My lung are full of granulomas tissue i suspect is other name for self resolved cancer.

A genes thingy ANY can dose happen SO given these pumps cause cancer COULD it be my granulomas genes THINK we not having any of this cancer causing stuff AND thats why have such adverse reaction

It's like everything isn't it, a balance of risk? If the advantage is greater than the disadvantage then probably worth taking, but certainly should discuss with your gp if you are worried.

Worth reading the article in NHS choices: Heartburn drug linked to premature death, July 4th 2017. The original study was done with US veterans and has various reasons for not being particularly conclusive.

There was a lot of holes in the research you mention. From memory it was linked to kidney failure amongst other things. I did read the actual research. The peer review cast doubts on the validity of the conclusions. However the media do like a good headline to scare the public.

The NHS link I provided points out the shortcomings.

Hi Carnival few times talked to doctors about it ... Don’t think this much else to take but have had bad reactions.

I had a bad reaction when I took it with sotalol so was changed to lansoprazole. I haven't had a problem with those, but I am no longer on sotalol. I hope things are reasonable for you and your dad in this awful weather xx

A granuloma is a small area of inflammation in tissue. Granulomas are most often the result of an infection and most frequently occur in the lungs, but can occur in other parts of the body as well.10 Oct 2015 From Mayo Clinic.

Hi Poemsgalore my understanding is it’s white blood cells SO guess cause could be result of anything that triggers reaction

What doesn’t cause cancer I wonder..

From the food we eat to the air we breathe..says I on a daily Omeprazole 40mg!! 😉

in reply to

Hi Jeff you may just have it right, your body may be rejecting what it sees as bad so hence the severe adverse reaction. Its possible this is what happens to many of us. Well done for investigating further.

PPI's used long term also weaken bones, thereby leading to a higher risk of fractures etc. Though when you read the blurb which comes with every drug they all may cause side effects, which sometimes are worse than the condition they are meant to treat.

PPI's lowers stomach acid, you shouldn't be lowering your stomach acid, because our foods need good high levels of stomach acid to break down our foods so we can digest it properly, if we lower our stomach acid food will hang around in our guts rotting away and not be digested properly, it is the gasses from the food hanging around that causes acid reflux or heart burn. Also PPI's can cause our vitamin B12 levels to fall and in turn cause gut issues and a long list of ills. Vitamin B12 is one vitamin you do not want to be lacking in, it is vital for so much, Mental health issues, Dementias, Spinal degeneration, Osteoporosis (link was known back in 2004, but not very well known) Head to toe problems, nerve and neurological problems and so on and on. Wouldnt touch PPI's with a barge pole. One old fashioned remedy is apple cider vinegar for acid reflux and heartburn.

i think you will find that acid reflux is caused by would you believe it stomach acids used to digest our foods which back flow for whatever medical reasons such as hiatus hernias or week valves and/or stomach linings up through the Esophagus causing damage and discomfort and not gasses hanging around from undigested food.i am quite happy to take PPI's as they prevent further damage to my already damaged Barretts Esophagus and hopefully will prevent regression of the already mutated cells into cancerous cells.

Apologies skischool, I called it 'gasses' instead of acid in one sentence. it is the low stomach acid which is causing the problems, people think it is high acid, but we need high acid to break down our food, other wise it causes these problems.

no apology required, there has been a lot of speculation about the study done but i think that the majority of PPI users are happy to continue with their medication in a controlled dosage as to stop using it would cause more harm than good.regards skis x

in reply toCoastwalker

Glad it works for you, but ACV makes heartburn & reflux worse for many people

What works for one may not always work for others Hanne62, some ACV 's are better than others too.

I agree..I can’t take any type of vinegar..the problem is 1. I am afraid to stop the Omeprazole because the doctor said there is a rebound effect if I do

2. Being on steroids it would be foolish as it protects the tissues apparently

3. What else is there? I already had to add the Riopan gel which is aluminium and bad for the kidneys..

4. The acidity has already damaged my larynx and vocal chords..I couldn’t go back to the earache I used to get from it..

5. When I finish with the cataract I got from the steroids 😃 I would like a break before the stomach endoscopy which I have put off since last year I think..

So it goes..looking for a stomach healing meditation I think 😃😉

Thank you Hanne for your wisdom xx

Nuts is good for guts ITs what the recomend cancer patients eat as strong drugs trash guts.

Well it’s oil from the nuts

in reply to

Thanks I eat almonds.. I was told to by the nutritionist actually because they contain calcium as well. Hazelnuts do as well but almonds are less fatty and they help with high cholesterol which I get from the steroids as well.

Apparently responsible for 4 additional stomach cancers per 10000 long term users. So the risk of not taking them far outweighs that of taking them.

I saw a list of things that might cause cancer which I think meant have not been proved not to cause cancer. Two of the items were coffee and woodwork.
