Dyspnea On Exertion (DOE)

I have been going to the VA for fourteen years trying to get a diagnosis for my SOB. I have spent years with cardiologists and pulmonologists. No diagnosis, every test possible. I was exposed heavily to asbestos in the military and believe I have asbestosis but docs refuse to diagnos. Will not do biopsy. Have several enlaged lymph nodes, pleural thickening and calcified granulomas in my lungs but still no diagnosis. Don't overlook pulmonary disease when asking about SOB!

Intrigued by VA. What/where? I immediately thought of the Victoria and Albert Museum. Are you in the states? Pulmonologist is a dead give-away.

It seems bizarre that there is evidence of lung damage but doctors are refusing to be specific. Are they frightened of litigation?

Yes, I firmly believe they don't want litigation or admission of guilt. Lawyers don't want to talk because they only want DIAGNOSED cases. That way all they have to do is fill out the paperwork for asbestosis/mesothelioma and collect their fee. I have just recently submitted my Claim with the VA for disability so we'll see how that turns out, if I don't expire first which is exactly what I think the VA is waiting for.

What a nightmare. I don't know your situation but if you did have a diagnosis of asbestos lung damage would you want to go down the route of litigation? And does the absence of a dx mean that your claim would be tricky as well? Still a little intrigued by VA?

Just the tip of the iceberg, far more litigation involving malpractice. I have a spouse to consider. Litigation STRONG possibility!

VA is USA medical facilities for Veterans for current and past military personnel who have served in our Armed Forces and other government officials. Mainly Veterans of War but anyone who’s served is entitled to healthcare for life if needed.

Yes, non VA Pulmonologist and cardiologist also recommend Shand's Hospital in Gainesville Fl because of their depth of resources.

Most doctors will not diagnose that type of lung disease without a biopsy.

Understood. VA will not do one, says it would be malpractice to do it.
